The hotel is on a busy road junction and the outside looks grubby because of it, but inside its spotless and the sound proofing minimises the traffic noise. The place itself has 500 years of history, and creaky floorboards and repairs that prove it. The decor seems to be just as it was put on in the 1960's so its like going in to a time warp! (The locals in the bar look as if they are extras for "Heartbeat" too)
That having been said the welcome was warm, the food hot, tasty and plentiful (I put on 4lb in 3 days), the alcohol well kept and well chosen, and I found my room warm (It was -7c outside) and the water hot, though a friend staying complained his shower was cold. We did all get up at the same time and there is a nice note in the bathroom apologising for the fact the plumbing came with the building.
This isn't a posh hotel, but it's a homely one, and one where you feel that they want to enjoy it.
