“Great Place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

My partner and i have just returned from our stay at The Old Brewery and we were a little concerned before we arrived having read some not very good reviews...we needn't have worried it's a fab place to stay. The staff are really helpful and very friendly and the breakfast is great and sets you up for the day. Our room was clean, comfortable and very quaint, we would recommend a stay here and we most definately will make a return visit soon.

Room Tip: We had aroom at the front with a view of the castle and green.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

The whole place had an air of not being cared for. It clearly depended on C to C walkers but seemed not to appreciate that many of these would expect to be able to have a comfortable night's sleep. The bathroom which I had to share (although I thought I had booked one en-suite) was mouldy and very poorly finished, the bed was extremely uncomfortable and my room, which had small windows which could not be easily opened, had a very odd smell to it.

Room Tip: Don't go for room 6

“Convenient location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011

We found the Old Bewery very pleasant. We stayed in one of the garden rooms which had twin beds. It was very spacious and had an enormous bath/shower room. We could see Richmond Castle from our window.
Breakfast was excellent. There was fresh fruit and various cereals for those who didn't want 'full English". The staff were accomodating of our special needs, particularly the lady at the front desk who went out of her way to give me internet access.
The guest house is close to the river, and we enjoyed a riverside walk with views of the old bridge and the castle.
We would love to stay longer another time.

“fab breakfast - very clean - beds hard”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2011

Stayed here last week doing the Coast to Coast walk. Very clean and good en suite bathroom if a bit small. Quiet and good outdoor space. !0 minute uphill walk to town center for dinner. Great breakfast menu - Eggs Benedict a particular favourite in our party of 3 and early breakfast when asked. Pancakes sublime ! Would steal the chef if I could.

“The photo is the best thing about it”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2011

The photo gives the impression of a well loved and cared for guest house but this couldn't be further from the truth. The initial greeting is a phone number on the door with a mobile number to call to be let in. The caretaker has helpful but detached. When we discovered there was no hot water he tried to help but couldn't. He went home in the evening and there was no-one there to help at night in case of emergency. The room and bathroom were pretty basic tho the beds were comfortable. We left early and there was no one on reception to pay so we had to do it over the phone by card. All casual and remote, no cheery log fires, hot cups of tea or warm greeting here!
