“A delightful quaint stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

Monk Fryston Hotel offers a perfect location for a weekend get-away! The staff is very friendly and it is in a small town in the English country side. We intended to stay in York but the prices were higher for less quality. It was a little tricky getting to the hotel since we did not have a car, it took about 1 1/2 hours on the bus (incl one change over). But it was certainly worth it! we spent an entire day enjoying the atmosphere and charm of the place. They have a fancy restaurant, bar, two fireplaces, big garden with river, and much more! The staff were amazing, very helpful. We would certainly recommend this place to anyone interested!

“Pleasant stay and helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

Just one night in this hotel, which is set in delightful grounds, to meet up with friends for dinner. Our standard room was large, comfortable and clean with plenty of tea, coffee and mineral water.

Having fiddled with the radiator and then the taps in the bathroom, we seemed to have no heating or hot water. A call to reception produced an immediate response and both heating and water were back to normal very quickly.

When booking, we hadn’t appreciated that it was a set (table d’hote) menu on Friday evenings, which would have out-faced our friends. A discussion with the most helpful gentleman on reception revealed that we could choose however much or little from the menu as we wished and he re-typed the menu with the prices per dish. You cannot say fairer than that. The evening meal was good and service charming and attentive.

Overall, a very pleasant evening with charming and helpful staff.

“Excellent Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

Called and booked two rooms and they didn't even take a deposit or card number off me; staff were very friendly and efficient.

We ate in the restaurant for dinner & breakfast and the food was good, not too plain not too fancy and was not compromised in any way by the event they had on.

We were lucky to get there at the end of the Indian summer, so got to sit out with drinks and go for a short walk around the pretty grounds in the morning (to clear the hangovers!).

Room was a bit of a hike but was also very quiet, clean and with plenty of space- we had room 20 which has a double aspect and so was nice an airy.

Will be stopping there again next time we visit our friends.

Room Tip: Head for the top of the building

“Wedding Review( Father of the Bride) 27/8/2011”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

The wedding day went faultlessly, the hotel organiser & staff working as a team, always
smiling, helpful & considerate of any & all requests by everyone.
Having read some previous reviews on weddings at this venue, where the staff were critisized,I would like to say,They have seriously improved their game.I could not fault them.
Having received feedback from numerous guests, they have all said,What a beautiful place
The hall & grounds are fantastic .
The rooms are clean & spacious but some what tired, the soft furnishings are showing
their age.
Taking into account the prices charged,Some investment could be justified in updating
decor & bedding etc.
The wedding fare was well presented, cooked & piping hot but the Yorkshire puddings
leave alot to be desired, you should not need a steak knife to cut one!.
The breakfast was well cooked, piping hot, plentiful & really good.
All in all, because the bride & groom spent so much time organising their wedding day
Then the staff Knew exactly what was required & performed.
If you are organised then this team of people will give you "A day to remember"

Yours sincerly
James H Brannan "Well happy"

“Nice food, but the best bit is the bridge”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2011

Didn't stay here, just had lunch; food is nice, hotel is a fabulous old manorial style building.
However, the best part of the hotel is the walk down past the pond, through the woods and there you'll find a fantastic old wooden enclosed bridge with painted scenes. Worth seeing, even if it mean getting muddy shoes.
