“still as good as ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Just returned home after a superb weekend in Harome. It was our second visit to the Star which was approx 3 years ago and we were not disappointed. With all the furore over Andrew losing his michelin star we were somewhat intrigued as we had had a wonderful experience there the first time how could it have happened. We think the inspector must have been having a bad day when he paid the star a visit as our second visit this weekend was as good if not better. From the start with us calling for a couple of pints of black sheep on the friday lunchtime to us leaving the restaurant on the saturday evening everything was spot on. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and very efficient. It was my husbands birthday so we were booked in for saturday evening as we were staying and eating on friday at the Pheasant. We were so surprised to find Andrew off for a night and drinking in the bar with friends but quite excited too as we had followed him on The Great British Menu. My husband asked him if he would sign me a menu which he did with no bother at all and was so friendly . When we were eating our wonderfully cooked meal the waitress came up with a couple of chefs surprises which were sent to us personally from Andrew as he knew we had been before and had travelled along way to return for a second time, wow he had taken the time from his night off to think about us. The food was superb staff excellent everywhere so clean and so very welcoming. Thankyou to Andrew and his great team at the Star will most definately be returning for a third time, keep it up you will get that well deserved star back in no time.

“The Star at Harome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

My husband and I stayed on a Monday evening in December, we stayed in room 9 in the annex which lovely, clean and comfortable. We dropped our bags of then went straight through to the honesty bar and sat in front of the beautiful fire place. My husband took some pictures of me whilst stood on the small staircase looking towards the Piggery where breakfast is served, not sure if anyone else has had the same experience but we have a couple of ghostly images on our pictures shown on a window reflection...very spooky!

The food as always was impeccable as was breakfast the next morning. We had coffee up in the loft but it was bitterly cold, please invest in another heater for there Andrew and Jackie as it is such a lovely place to round off the meal but we only lasted a couple of minutes. Really looking forward to our next visit!

Thank you for your comments. We are very pleased to hear you had a great time. We would be very interested to see your ghostly photos. The coffee loft is now like a sauna and we hope to welcome you back to 'The Star Inn' soon.

Cheers

“One word- AMAZING!”

I simply love this place!! What can I say? The staff are incredibly well-trained, attentive and friendly. We had a fantastic meal and night at the Star Inn to celebrate my birthday. It's location is fabulous, kind of in the middle of nowhere, but that's what makes it so special. The actual restaurant has a great atmosphere, and is tiny and quaint. The food is out of this world, and my Husband was blown away with our tasting menu. The very knowledgeable waiter, described every dish in incredible detail and ensured us that everything was sourced locally.
The room we stayed in was amazing. I felt really at home there, and the complimentary drinks and snacks were very well-received! Mars bars, (hand-baked) cookies, local spring waters and sweets!! They must have known I was on my way! The bathroom was well-equipped and had a spa bath. I loved the wooden decor and wooden beams in the bedroom, it really felt quite rustic.
The breakfast was served in a different part of the building and still served amazing food. We dined on a huge round table fit for a king & queen! I had creamed mushrooms on toast with watercress which has been one of my all-time favourite breakfasts! The buffet prior to this had lots of choice too, including mozzarella, speciality meats, cheeses, fruit and pastries.
The only let-down was the cockerel waking me up at 5:30am and being unable to get back to sleep!
We ARE coming back, once we've saved up!...

Room Tip: Pick either Room 7 or Room 8!

Thank you for your comments and kind words. You will be pleased to hear that it is somewhat quieter here at 'The Star Inn' in the early hours of the morning as 'Coq Au Vin' has recently appeared on our Specials Board!

We hope to see you again soon.

Kind regards

“Rude, rude, rude!”

My boyfriend and I have stayed at the Star Inn before and had a lovely time. The food was pretty good and we stopped in one of the cottages which was lovely. We're going to a wedding in April in Newcastle so decided to book in for a night and meal on the way up. I rang to book a room 3 times and nobody answered the phone so eventually we had to email our request. We got a reply email asking us to ring to confirm the booking which I did - another 3 times with no reply. On the 4th occasion we got an answer, only to be told that the reservations was not available and could they ring us back. I gave the date of the booking and names. Five minutes later reservations rang back - to say they were returning my call. I went through all the information again and was then told that we had to pay for the room up front, not a deposit, the whole amount! I said I wasn't happy and was asked if I therefore wanted the reservation scrubbing out. The woman on reservation was very rude and seemed not to care less. Needless to say we will be stopping somewhere else and won't be stopping at the Star Inn again. Well done Star Inn!

“What a little "jewel"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Well anyone wanting the highest quality food in the most quaint surroundings should definitely consider a visit here. Everything about it is superb - pre-drinks, private dining area, personal dining service followed by some, great company back in the bar area. Rooms were not available but the nearby b & b was superb too. On a cold night, nothing is more welcoming than a glowing fire, an extensive selection of ales and wines and the menu was just fabulous.
This chef (owner) really is something else!!
