Accommodation at the Star Inn is not in the pub itself, but in various buildings very very close by. We (a group of 12) have just stayed in one of those buildings - Cross House Lodge, which is one minute's walk across the road from the pub. It comprises eight double bedrooms, a lounging area with sofas and easy chairs, around an open fire, and a fabulous dining room with a massive round table which seats up to 16. It isn't cheap (we each paid around £500 for two nights) but that covered dinner, bed and breakfast, lunch in the pub, champagne and canapés before dinner each evening and all our drinks (before, during and after dinner), cakes, tea and coffee whenever we wanted it, cheese and biscuits left out for late nibbles. Breakfast was scrumptious - a huge spread offering everything imaginable. Lunch (posh ploughman's) was very simple but tastes to die for- and dinner was out of this world - everything we ate was extremely well executed. The honesty bar meant we just helped ourselves (so it was like being at home) and the staff were friendly but unobtrusive. The service ethos was evident throughout, and Ann on the front desk was particularly lovely. The rooms were individual and very comfortable, with lovely touches - Molton Brown, Mars Bars and posh snacks, music and DVDs. It was perfect.
