“One of the best”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Me and the Mrs have stayed here 4 times now.
As per the other reviews its just such a unique place and we've yet to come across anywhere else like it.
Everytime we've stayed it has been in a lodge/chalet with the private hot tubs and each one is differnet with its own little quirks. Can't really commnet on the manor house rooms but i don't know how keen i'd be on sharing a hot tub wtih strangers.
One thing that does also make the place is the standard of the food in the restaurant.

Two small things we have noticed in our recent visits is the staff are now not of the same quality as our first visit (this is more aimed at restaurant staff really, and this is eveidnet especially at breakfast times).
Also I believe the hot tubs have been changed/updated within the last year. We found they were no where near as good as the previous ones they used as they simply wouldn't get hot enough, more of a 'warm' tub really (previosuly you could sit outside in the snow in the old type as they got that hot).

“Great Birthday Treat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

Wanting celebrate our birthdays with a nice getaway for the night we chose the Crab Manor hotel. Based on feedback and reputation. We were not disappointed at all. The room in the Manor was loverly and suited us.
We also enjoyed a lovely evening in the Crab & Lobster. The food quality was exceptional and the service 2nd to none.
All of the staff were very helpful and attentive and I would like to give a special mention to Kostin (sorry if spelling incorrect) and the young French gentleman behind the bar. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel very special.
Will definitely be visiting the Hotel and Restaurant again in the future and look forward to it.

“Special but a little expensive!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

My wife and I went to the crab manor and stayed in the Bora Bora room, the staff were excellent but the room was quite dark as no windows apart from one skylight. The room was lovely but the hot tub was overlooked by the pub Conservatory and terrace. The hotel had a free beer tap which is great but the walk up the garden meant we only had one free pint. In summary the check in needs to move from 3pm to 2pm and the check out until 12noon. A lovely setting but a £160 to £200 room charge is nearer reality. Expensive but lovely and quirky!!

Room Tip: Go for one of the log cabins

“50th Birthday Celebrations!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

Just returned from a fantastic first visit to Crab Manor and the Crab and Lobster restaurant (see separate review). The hotel is a lovely old fashioned manor house, on first entering it might seem a bit drab and old fashioned, but give it a chance. We stayed for 1 night for my friends 50th and took over the entire place all bar 2 rooms. It was like having your own home, brilliant. The bedrooms are what make this place, quirky and lovely. We stayed in the Mount Nelson room based on Cape Town and furnished as a safari trip (see photos). Room was spotlessly clean, and even though it was furnished to make you feel like you were on safari it was bang up to date. Flat screen TV, docking station for your IPod, tea and coffee making facilities and a massive bathroom, made even better with a roll top bath and Molton Brown products. The men in our party made good use of the communial hot tub !, even though none of them had come equipped the hotel provided swimming trunks for them all. We loved the fun of the hidden beer tap, mind you very easy to find, but unlike others I am not going to give the game away!, even though it ran out of beer the hotel soon connected a new barrel of beer and they were off again!, great idea and no charge to the guests. We had a lovely tea in the conservatory, followed by canapes and champagne in the lounge. Everyone was commenting on the different rooms that they were in, and we had a brilliant time. If you are sick and tired of run of the mill, plain old boring hotel rooms then give this one a try, rates seem to go from around £160 - £240 but worth it. The hotel grounds are lovely and we all commented that in the summer it would be wonderful. The Crab and Lobster restaurant is literally a minute walk from the hotel. Brilliant !

Room Tip: Any of them all good fun !

“A family affair”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

We stayed in one of the themed rooms. Amy and Dan stayed in the big house!

The fish soup ~ echoes of down islands. It was uphill from there. I can't wait for
breakfast: well it was my birthday.

Thank you.

Nicola and David

Room Tip: It's so easy to find from the Great North Roan (er A1m)
