“Never, EVER again”

I travel regularly on business and have stayed in some interesting places but this was by far the worst hotel I have ever been in. My room was badly in need of a refurbishment and even more in need of a damn good clean - marks on the walls, dirty carpet (soles of feet were black after walking on it), the twin beds sagged badly in the middle and the bedding didn't smell very clean, the bathroom smelt strongly of urine and was dirty to the point of having someone else's toilet roll left in the loo basin! Almost the worst thing though was the fact that my room had french doors opening onto the flat roof of the downstairs bar - the doors "locked" only with 2 internal-type bolts and as there was a fire escape leading onto the roof from the alley below, I didn't exactly feel secure! At breakfast I was told the hotel was undergoing a menu change and I couldn't get a yoghurt.... I was very glad to check out and will not be returning.

“Cheap and cheerull”

First the upside - the staff were to a person extreemly welcoming and friendly. The public bar was relaxing and the price of beer and food very very reasonable. And the accomodation was relativeley cheap. However the rooms were fairly shabby and there was an awkward simplex lock to negotiate between reception and rooms. A colleague had no TV remote, anothers toilet didnt flush ( neither did mine ). The postcode on the website didnt get us to the place, and the one given over the phone was miles away ! It did the job for a cheap place to stay while on bussiness but I wonder which Royal Family lent their title to this establishment !

“Would not stay here again, EVER!”

Having booked at this hotel following the guide that the rooms were nice, the food was good and the staff helpful I felt confident of a good 2 days. Upon our arrival we were met by a receptionist who appeared to be all that was promised, however having been checked in we were informed that the hot water was not working and as such there were no bar facilities, both drink and food now off the menu, not to mention the shower/bath.
We were offered the option of trying to find another hotel, however having just travelled for 5 hours and being late for the party we were attending we all decided to forgo this offer and wait till the following day as the water was supposed to be getting fixed.

Not being able to find anyone with an ounce of savvy in the morining we went about our business and upon returning in the afternoon we once again were informed that the water had not been fixed and would be off the foreseeable future. Enquiry was made about a discount however this was met with disgust and we again were offered another hotel, far from where we wanted to be. Again another request was made for a discount and dissmised, I would not stay at this hotel again ever. Why was an E-Mail or phone call not made in advance to warn us of the impending disastar awaiting us?

“Good hotel and food”

I stayed in the Royal Hotel for 3 Months on and off while working at the Local Steel Plant. I found that the family run hotel was a nice place to stay. The food was excellent and the bar is a good place to relax after a busy day at work.

The breakfast is excellent and the service is good.

The rooms were average, and the bathrooms were nice with power shower.

I would recommend anyone stay here as its a friendly environment with good people who take care of you.

“functional not fantastic”

stayed here for 2 nights as it is in a good location if you are going out in the town. Downstairs resturant and bar is nice, the hotel side is a very different story. Our room was quite small, and tired looking, loo didnt flush properly, door didnt shut properly, and the cleanliness was borderline. On a plus point the hotel was very warm both in the corridors and in the rooms, and you got a duvet and a throw, which was nice.
