“Honesty, the best policy !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Hi, My name is Tony. I have stayed at “Macdonald Kilhey court!” for the last six months, so I can give a fair review, I have stayed in various rooms and I have a favourite room “408“ The room has a massive bathroom that you can sing in, and even for me it sounded reasonable , there are no neighbours, the bedroom is large but not massive, but for what I needed it was fine, The decor is a little dated, however, So is the house ? It would be so wrong to have 21st century decor in this old house style hotel; I feel that if this was updated then the hotel would lose some of the quality that we require as customers,
Let me introduce you to the staff! On arrival there is Sophie, A young girl that Is everything a hotel needs, She will help you with anything, A pleasant young lady that is always willing to do whatever she can to make your stay more comfortable, An asset to the hotel, If you are booking a hotel then you need people like this lady to deal with it! Once you have checked in there is some activities that can be taken use of such as, Swimming pool ( not very big ) but ideal for children, sauna, Jacuzzi and steam rooms, this is included in your booking as a guest, and are amazing!. The food here is a little expensive, however, this is a hotel “and this is to be expected”, The quality from the 4 onsite chef’s is amazing! Then you have the barmen, Paul, a force not to be reckoned with, excellent memory and know’s how to poor any drink! , Tamasz, Who is so polite and will always try to do anything he can for you, Peter, Hmm.. he sometime’s try’s a little too hard, but is always a gentlemen. Then there is Steve, This guy should easily be a manager as his ability to do his job is second to none!, A perfect gentleman that deserves more than his role, as he really cares.
You have a manager Rob, and 2 lady supervisors Tina and Jen, that look after you during the day. Jen is the perfect hostess for the morning shift, and Tina is the perfect hostess for functions and evening time, However, Rob is trying to climb the hotel ladder too quickly, and needs more people skills to reach the next level, However the ladies have more than enough skills to be in a management roll. There are other staff such as Debbie, that is there for your early start and steph, also, assets to the company, so polite and always happy to help with your every need, I’m not the greatest with names, but all the staff here are worthy of praise ! I can only hope that Jonathon passes this praise on to his team ! I would recommend this hotel to my friends as this has been the best hotel that I have ever stayed in, I would mention that the staff have gone 1 step above what is required to help me through the last 6 months away from my family, but I will thank the staff on my departure next week, Finally there is the General Manager “ Jonathon” a really nice guy that will help you with anything, “ his door is always open “ sometimes I feel that he should step back a little, and let the team that he has deal with the hotel, but a really nice polite gentleman. I have given this hotel an honest review as that is what we (the Public) should be doing,
Tony 408.

Room Tip: 408 409, these rooms are in the old part of the house and are lovely rooms,

Thank you Tony C for your review that you posted on trip advisor and for your loyalty to the Macdonald Kilhey Court Hotel and Spa for the past 6 months. I will share your comprehensive feedback with the team and will most certainly praise them for their excellent customer focus and service. Whilst I thank you for your review, I do not think it is appropriate to name my staff individually as this might be damaging to my staff members future reputation. It would have been more beneficial to me and my team had you spoken to me directly about your stay seeing as we did have many conversations. I was pleased to read that you did have an enjoyable stay and that my team looked after you so well.

Many thanks

Kind Regards

Jonathan

Kilhey Court is a lovely hotel set in a quiet area ! There are 3 lakes set at the bottem of lovely grounds. The pool is small and is suitable for youngsters, the steam rooms and sauna are lovely as is the jacuzzi and Gym ! It's greatest asset however is its staff ! They are dedicated and loyal to the hotel ! There is always 1 bad penny in the bunch ! But don't stay up too late and this can easily be avoided ! I have stayed there for a 6 month period while working away from home and have really enjoyed my stay ! With all things taken into consideration ! This is a 3-4 star hotel with 4 star prices.

“Overpriced food and poor standards”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Stayed at this hotel recently on business - A room in the old building which looked quaint but had very sqeaky floorboards, a safe that wouldn't open, lamps with the bulbs not working and a decor which could best be described as dated. Took a light snack in the bar and was charged £10.50 for a salad seved up in a soup bowl with nothing to accompany not even a bread roll!!! Attitude of staff was indifferent. Breakfast was £15 for 1 egg, 1sausage, 1 Mushroom and beans served in an eggcup - plus had to wait 30 minutes for the pleasure. Travel this way frequently and thought to try this place - definately the first and last visit - plenty of choice in the area and better value for money I'm sure.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel !

“Brilliant Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Stayed here over the weekend as we were on a works night out close by. We were greeted at Reception by Sophie who was lovely. All smiley and asking how our journey had been, where we had travelled from etc. Told us all about the hotel facilities, what time breakfast was and the like. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom again was clean and had lovely big fluffy towels and a nice powerful shower. The TV was the old style and I know some people on this site get a bit upset over this but come on, does it really matter? As long as it works, it's fine. On return to the hotel after our meal we stayed in the lounge area having drinks. Again service was brilliant and I'm sure we must have driven Scott mad by the time we left to go to our rooms at 6am. I used the pool in the morning and again greeted by a lovely lady who booked me in (sorry can't remember her name as I hadn't woken up properly) changing rooms clean, pool and steam rooms etc all spotless. The pool is only small but as there was only me in it didn't really matter. After finally managing to wake my other half we got down for breakfast at 10.20. The lady there told us that it had finished at 10 (I thought it was half past). We said it didn't matter and made to leave. She told us that she would speak to the chef and to take a table. We sat in the conservatory bit overlooking the lake, gorgeous view. We than had our order taken for a full cooked breakfast which arrived in about 5 minutes, it was lovely too. Just what was needed after a heavy night. Coffee arrived promptly too. On check out Sophie again was on reception, asked about what we'd be up to for the rest of the day etc. On the whole this hotel is everything you need and in a lovely spot but the main part for me is the absolutley brilliant service. All the staff that we met were so friendly and helpful, they would be an asset to any company. Keep it up, we will be back!

“It hasn't changed much over the years.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

On Friday 22nd January we needed a hotel due to a late business meeting in the area and I have stayed here previously a few times since 1990. The place was almost exactly as I remember it. On arrival, the reception staff were very efficient and friendly and gave us clear indications as to the location of our room and all the facilities.
The room was looking a bit tired but had in it everything you would normally expect, even an ironing board! The bed was really comfortable and that was a big plus point.
The bar and restaurant areas seemed a bit too dimly lit but overall comfortable and the barman in the residents bar was very friendly and even sent extra milk up to the room for early morning.
We booked this on Laterooms and we got a great price and would stay here again. However, my overall impression of the restaurant menu was that it was overpriced and our friends suggested we went to The Owls at Standish. We did exactly that and it was amazing value for money.

I was pleased to read that you enjoyed the service provided to you and I will most certainly share this with my team.
