“Great cottages in a great location.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

My wife and I were looking for a last minute, escape from it all, break and decided to look at cottages within a 2hrs drive from our home in Staffordshire. There's so many to choose from but Wolfen Mill stood amongst them as being a little luxury in the country. What sealed it was my conversation with the owner who was incredibly helpful - and just as pleasant when we met him.
Wolfen Mill Cottages are tucked away in Chipping in the Forest of Bowland. Access from the M6 (Jcn 31 about 40 minutes) was great, passing through Longridge - complete with Sainsbury's, butchers and farm shops (helpful) - to get to our cottage.
Everyone's idea of luxury is different but our cottage did offer luxury, ranging from the decoration of the cottage, thick bathrobes to the plates and cutlery - it felt a great place to stay and it was. The cottage was extremely clean and well cared for - Michael and Marie clearly take great care and pride in their business.
We took our Border Terrier with us and there were plenty of places to exercise him. The Forest of Bowland is an area of outstanding natural beauty and there are plenty of walks within easy reach of the cottages, all kindly mapped out in our handbook, complete with laminated walk guides.
The weather was not great for our stay but it hasn't put us off staying again, both in the FoB and at Wolfen Mill so we will be back again soon - more than likely with friends in tow this time.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

My wife and I have stayed several times at Wolfen Mill over the past year and a half and would recommend it to anyone. Well equipped to a high level of comfort and quality. An oasis of calm within easy access to any amenities and attractions you could want - whether countryside, town, city or indeed seaside (we visit our son in Manchester using the Mill as a base too).
No need for any negative comments left by previous reviewers (in my opinion)...you don't HAVE to clean, but it's only polite to leave the place as you find it (spotless)...no mobile signal is surely a fantastic advantage(?) (you can actually get a signal in the car parking area).
Can't fault the facilities nor the discreet presence of the owners...the self check-in is also a great advantage (although it sounds a little anti-social, we really like not HAVIBG to speak to people on holidays if we don't want to!)
Totally love the Mill and surrounding area as a real contrast to a busy lifestyle. Thanks for taking such care to make it comfortable and relaxing...can't agree that it's expensive...you get what you pay for.

“Great short break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2011

Free wifi, great facilities and some great walks. Most places required a week stay or a mid week stay, we booked a 5 night stay starting on a Wednesday. Much better than the alternative of a b&b in Blackpool ! Very environmentally conscious.

Room Tip: You have to do your own cleaning

“A lovely pretty location and definitely 5 star accommodation.”

The Bowland Forest is a part of Lancashire that my husband and I had never thought of visiting. It is a very pretty area with dells, small villages and The Trough of Bowland. The village of Chipping, which is about a mile and a half from the Mill is full of charm with one of the oldest shops in England. There are plenty of places to visit and a good choice of cafes, inns and restaurants. The area is excellent for walking and some of the properties allow a dog, which is unusual for 5 star property. There are plenty of dog walking routes adjacent to the property.

The property has lovely outdoor facilities, including a BBQ area and the local butcher in Chipping sells excellent meat.

Next time we go I hope it doesn't rain so much so we can enjoy the excellent facilities.
