“Homely, excellent food, will be back!”

Stayed one night with my boyfriend and parents in December 2011. Included in our stay was accommodation, 3-course evening meal and breakfast and it was extremely good value for money.

Rooms:
We stayed in Room 5 which is one of 2 in the attic (second floor). Decorated beautifully and very comfortable. Toiletries, tea/coffee making facilities, cable tv and hairdryer.

My parents were in Room 3 (first floor) which was also a lovely room.

Only negative which some may find a nuisance is the church bells which chime every 15 minutes. They were louder in the attic room as this was on the same side as the church and had Velux windows but it did not stop us sleeping.

Communal ironing facilities.

Pub:
Extremely homely, decorated and furnished like a traditional country inn, clean and with excellent staff - friendly and efficient. Comfortable chairs, real log fire, candles etc.

Clean toilets and baby changing facilities. Lovely, large outdoor seating/eating area with playground, although a little too chilly in December!

Plenty of parking (free) onsite.

Food:
Traditional, home-made meals and excellent value for money. Between us we had (starters) mussells, crayfish salad, scallops, (mains) rib eye steak, hotpot, duck, pie, (desserts) eton mess, sticky toffee pudding and bakewell tart. All of which we could find no fault with and polished off despite being full!!

Vast breakfast choice, we had full English which was beautiful. Also selection of juices, yoghurt, cereal, toast etc.

Beer:
There was a selection of real ales and an extensive wine list. Lager was expensive but it does always tend to be in such places.

Summary:
Laid back, peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, perfect for couples or families with stunning food and pleasant staff, can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Choose from Rooms 1-4 if you don't want to be in the attic (2 flights of stairs)

“Great food, friendly staff and dog friendly rooms”

We stayed here as a mini honeymoon after our wedding. We stayed 2 nights with breakfast and 3 course evening meal included, and it came in at just under £200 all in. I think this was great value, the food was beautiful, lots of choice, and there is no catch, you really can order anything.
The rooms were nice and warm and cosy, the bed was huge! Bathroom looked to be newly done up, my only gripe being the shower was very low in pressure so it took ages to get wet!
Waddington Village is very pretty and a great base to explore the Ribble Valley, over to North Yorkshire and beyond.
The staff were very helpful, accomodating us in the bar next to the log burner while we waited for the RAC to come and rescue our car (snapped fanbelt). Would def go again.

“Friendly & cosy, but pretty average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

We stayed for two weekend nights in room 1 in mid November 2011. We were up for a wedding so just used the room for getting ready / sleeping and eating breakfast. We paid £65 per night for B&B which is good value and it is a better place than you usually get for £65 but not hugely so - if you want boutique luxury this isn't it but if you want a nice pub with rooms it's quite a good find. On the plus side the pub is really nice and the staff friendly, the room was quite spacious and fairly well equipped, the breakfast was hearty - range of cereals, juices and a big full english and choice of eggs that you can make any combo of. On the downside, firstly the noise - now I am not usually one to worry much about noise but the combination of different things just made it a real pain. I'm not including the noise from the pub below or the footsteps and bathroom sounds from the rooms above as it's what you get in a 400 year old building. But we also had to contend with the most creaky floorboards I've ever known right outside our door, and a fire door on the landing that slammed shut and made our door and furniture rattle whenever someone came upstairs from the pub. We managed to rig up various straps to stop the rattling and after the pub closed (12) there wasn't too much sound...except for the church bell outside that rang every quarter of an hour and then rang constantly the following mornings! Obviously the pub can't do anything about this, but with everything else it just made for a very noisy place. The other downside was that breakfast was only served until 9.30 on the weekends, which is a bit too early for those who like a lie in when they're away. Maybe not a problem for some but feels like something that could be easily fixed. Overall the place was good value for money and quite a good find if you just want an average B&B affair, but bring some earplugs.

“Excellent bed and breakfast, less impressed by dinner.”

We were happy with the room we had at the Waddington Arms. For sixty five quid,we had a good sized bedroom with a comfortable bed, simply decorated with a seemingly newly refurbished bathroom containing that walkers' essential,a bath with a good supply of hot water. That the shower over the bath was distinctly underpowered was a disappointment. The counterintuitive arrangement of the bedroom furniture was also something of an irritant in that it proved problematic to open the wardrobe door without knocking into the TV table.Closer inspection revealed that the source of the problem was the existence of only one socket in the room.A gang plug was provided so hairdryer and netbook could be used in preferred positions.

The pub itself is nicely presented with lots of eclectically selected furniture of varying ages on stone flags or bare boards.I found the beer to be excellently kept and cheerfully served and the wine list to be of reasonable length and good value. The food, however, was for me a disappointment. The Lancashire hotpot was bland and the pork special the following night had more flavour but looked a sludgy mess on the plate.I may well have chosen badly but two weak dishes in a row does not instill confidence. My wife's vegetarian choices were of reasonable quality but the variety offered to the non meat eater was at odds with the claims made in this respect on the website.

Breakfast was much better. The cooked breakfast was very well produced and the coffee was excellent and in good quantity.Cereals were the mass produced varieties and jam came in little packets but at this price, that's fair enough,I'd say.Service throughout our stay was polite and professional.

I'd definitely stay here again if only to do some more walking in the lovely countryside around Clitheroe.Waddington itself is a pretty village, despite being on a quite busy road. The Forest of Bowland and the famous Trough are unsung but beautiful areas for walking and the little cafe at Slaidburn makes a good finishing point to a day's hike.Clitheroe has retained something of the character of an old market town and the castle and its little museum are worth a look.

Room Tip: I'd be careful not to choose a room overlooking the beer garden in a warmer time of the year.Noi...

“Posh Pub Grub !”

Had lunch at this cosy venue numerous times, always a warm welcome with ( when warranted) a lovely log fire !
Top end prices (as already stated) but freshly prepared and using local produce, even the the real ales and wines ! Good choice of food and also a daily 'specials board'
All in all a very comfortable dining experience !
