“Worst stay of my life!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

There was blood on my sheets! The carpet was grubby, and the street had police patrolling it regularly. What a total dump! Do not visit!

Our shower kept filling up and when we went down to reception to ask if they could do something about it, we were told there was nothing they could do and we would just have to keep pumping the plug with our hands! The friend I stayed with now has an infection on her foot! The toilet seat looked like it had been chewed on by a dog, and there was this odour throughout the hotel like old, stale people.

We received the most weird welcome from the hosts too!

“where old people go to die”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

This is where old people come to die, but before they do that, they sit in the communal area all day long in their favourite lounge chairs. Someone, somewhere is smoking indoors which I personally don't care about but a) it's illegal and b) doesn't make for a pleasant aroma on arrival. The kitchen could do with a more effective extractor fan too in order to eliminate the cooking odours which also permeate the reception area. And then there's the unmistakable smell of the aforementioned old people...

My room gave an indication of what it might be like to be incarcerated in a sort of half-way house, for perhaps the socially inadequate, the criminally insane - it is as one previous reviewer suggested - like borstal. Tiny, dark and giving off an aura of impending danger - I got, I guess, what the price suggested - cheap and nasty.

In a more fair world the guests would be offered money to stay here, not the other way round - however that's not the way the world works but you can help yourself in one tiny way by choosing an actual hotel and not this poor excuse for a roof over your head.

“You get what you pay for”

Stayed here for one night for The Open Golf Championship though I dont reckon Phil Mickelson was in the next room. I was a bit alarmed when our friends already there warned us it would remind you of being in borstal and they werent far wrong. That said given how bad the area was the hotel wasnt as bad as some of the previous reviews. Margate looks like it needs a serious makeover and as a result so does this hotel. If you are looking for somewhere to go for a holiday or romantic weekend, then forget this place. If you need somewhere convenient for one night then it just about does the job, though watch out for the chair and table in the shower

“What a Dump”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 July 2011

Firstly location was terrible old furniture dumped in the streets dog crap everywhere, generally depressing area. The hotel as has been mentioned previously looked like it had seen better days. It is in ned to be striped out and redcorated completely. Shower was too small for anyone other than a nornal sized 10/12 year old. The food in general was cooked ok but strangely! Cottage pie more like water pie.
It reinforced my ideas that the UK has a lot to learn about hotels. I have a feeling that most of it's customers were the elderly coming in coach parties and are probaly too feeble to complain!

Room Tip: I don't think there is a best room tip.

“How bad can it get”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2011

We stayed in this hotel as part of a dinner dance weekend , it is in need of a total update, it is dirty, plumbing is in a terrible state, staff really need to have customer care training and adopt a can do attitude, sadly lacking currently.
The adoption of private parties with noise levels that are dangerous to human hearing levels is another area certain to drive customers away.
Margate is trying to improve itself, this hotel is not helping

Room Tip: Dont stay until it has a total update
