We stayed here for one night with an offer of £15.00 per night for the room. Needlesss to say we did not expect a lot and were not dissapointed.

The room was a fair size and the king size bed comfortable.
We had a fold up sofa in the room but did not have to use it. A kettle and mugs with tea coffee & sugar provided.

Hairdyer and iron on a first come basis at reception.

No food only a very expensive vending machine in the small reception area. Found it difficult to find, this place is ok for a one off stay.

I booked a double room at this hotel and received written confirmation of my booking. However, when I arrived at the hotel, I was told that I couldn't have the room I had booked, and would have to have a single room instead. After a long discussion with the receptionist she admitted that they have a policy of over-booking rooms, and sometimes you may be unlucky and be given a room smaller than the one you booked. However, the hotel still force you to pay the full price of the room you originally booked!! I had to spend a very uncomfortable night there in the smallest bed I have ever slept in! I have complained in writing to Travelodge and have had no reply. I doubt whether I'll be staying at a Travelodge again!

I would agree with the other comments about this Travelodge that its fairly tatty and the rooms are of quite a poor standard.

I agree whole-heartedly with the review posted below (March 28th review).

We stayed 3 nights at this hotel. It was a "tired" looking building, that felt like it was understaffed. The room was just "okay". I saw what appeared to be clean linen placed on the floor of the hallway outside of a couple of rooms when we first arrived. There was no phone in the room, and the mattress was quite saggy.

It was a good location to use as a base, but you definitely need a car to get around, as it is on a busy highway. Our room was at the back of the hotel and overlooked a field, with a couple of horses. We didn't notice any highway noise on that side of the hotel.

We stayed at a number of Travelodges on our recent tour of Great Britain, and this was near the bottom of the heap in terms of quality control. That being said, it wasn't all bad. If you're tired enough at the end of the day, it serves its purpose as a place to put your head down.

This hotel is actually located nearer to Whitstable than Canterbury. But it's only about 5 miles to Canterbury. The hotel is located along the side of the A299 which is quite a busy dual-carriageway. There is a Shell petrol station and a Little Chef beside the travelodge which is quite convenient. However the traffic noise from the dual carriageway can be quite annoying if you are light sleeper as the road gets a fair amount of traffic even in the middle of the night. If you are staying here then you really need to have a car.

The outskirts of Whitstable is a mile or two along the dual carriageway and then it's another couple of miles into the centre of Whitstable. The drive into Canterbury is quite pleasant and you can park at Canterbury West train station (2 minutes from city walls) and thus avoid most of the town centre traffic.

The rooms themselves are fairly typical for a travelodge: clean and modern with a small portable television. However general maintenance seemed to be poor. Our shower had quite a bad leak. This basically meant that using the shower completely drenched the floor and it was basically unusable. I would imagine that this leak had been there for quite a while. In another bathroom the extractor fan was broken.

If I stayed here again then I would be sure to check on arrival that the shower etc worked.
