“Supremely disappointed”

I stayed at The Buxton Inn back in the eighties and was very satisfied with the place, unfortunately that left me with high expectations for a return visit. The staff in general seemed disinterested in us. At first glance our room, granger, seemed nice. Then we started to notice the inconsistencies. For a place that prides itself on its age, the plastic battery clock from walmart and the cheap bathroom light fixture didn't really fit in. The toilet seat finish was worn off and the bathroom walls really needed a new coat of paint or at least a washing. On the second morning, my partner went to open his towel and was surprised when a clump of dried hair, not his, fell to the floor. I have to agree that breakfast at The Buxton is not a memorable affair , a Best Western does a better job. On the second morning we were headed into the inn when the lady at the front desk curtly asked if she could help us. We were told breakfast was in our rooms. we found styrofoam containers in the fridge, the contents appeared to be leftovers from the day before. Needless to say, we won't be returning.

“Historically Interesting but...”

Here is this wonderful old Inn, advertised as the oldest continuously Inn in Ohio. It is a beauty but needs to have an elegant make over; tae the carpet and go to wood floors, at least in the bathrooms , figure out how to allow the windows to open to have some fresh air and the Inn's history deserves more than serving coffee out of styrofoam cups in the morning. Lovely old Inn needs a class upgrade. STaff was gracious and kind.

“Amazing gardens, atmosphere-a gem in the midwest.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2010

The Buxton Inn and the town of Granville OH offer a completely unexpected escape in the midwest. The Inn, with the many fountains, gardens and patios, feels very similar to Savannah or New Orleans. The value is in the location and surroundings. The bed was extremely comfortable, the bathrooms very clean, the patio-fantastic. The breakfast is light, but it's a nice touch, and the breakfast room is large enough to enjoy the food with some privacy. We will be back.

“Needs updating and a Grounds Keeper”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 June 2010

On first blush it seemed nice - but after a little while there, you realize the place is in need of a lot of work. There is carpeting in the bathroom. That is just gross. The grounds were a mess and weeds everywhere. The stairs and porch to our room were falling apart. After closer inspection, I assume this place is on the edge of going under and that there is no money to put back into the business. It is a shame. The location is great, although there is not much to do in Granville after walking up and down the street once.

“Not quite what I expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2010

The grounds, for a small inn, are charming. But we arrived on a Monday to find that the restaurant and the tavern are not open on Mondays, so we had to go across the street to the Granville Inn for dinner. No breakfast Tuesday morning either. Instead, there was a box in my refrigerator the day before with an apple, carton of milk, a small muffin, etc. Very disappointing. I cannot imagine why this inn could not hire someone to come in early in the morning to at least put out juice, muffins, coffeee and tea and even cold cereal in the restaurant.
The room is filled with antiques, and every room is different. It is nice but there is something that I cannot put my finger on that makes my room not as special as it should be, but maybe I am just colored by the food situation here and the fact that my colleague had to drag her suitcase up a narrow and steep set of stairs to her room. Mine is on the first floor with a very simple, basic lock, and although they say that this is a safe town, I do feel a bit insecure.
