“Ideal B & B in village centre.”

Lovely old house, with a super en-suite room. Charming hosts, friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Tilly, their rescue cat added to the charm. Breakfast was excellent. Not easy to find as their website has not been updated, and there are no parking facilities, but free parking just up the road. Thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: Only two rooms, we had the en-suite, excellent. Rather steep but small staircase.

“Would love to come back!”

Stayed with a friend for 2 nights in April some years ago (2008). Lovely old house. Our bathroom had an old oak-floor, and my friend decided that was excactly what she would have on the floors in her own house. Nice breakfast. Nice hosts. We went for a walk to Sissinghurst gardens, and our host made us a little hand-made map to find our way through the old forest. The map directed us to several large old trees on our way to Sissinghurst. Beautiful. April was a good time to stay, so many flowers everywhere. Cranbrook is a nice little place.

I stayed for work but this would make an amazing B&B for a romantic weekend away. Really beautiful rooms. Very friendly staff and very helpful. I left something in the room which they were more than happy to post back to me. Excellent costumer service.

“Charming and welcoming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

We had a lovely three nights at Church Gates. Joe was a wonderful host and provided the most delicious breakfasts of fresh fruit, cereals and cooked breakfasts if desired. The house itself is delightfully old and creaky, filled with lovely antiques and books. Our room had a very comfortable large bed and the deep bathtub in the bathroom was a lovely indulgence. It is a great base from which to explore the surrounding great gardens of Sissinghurst, Great Dixter and National Trust properties. Chartwell, home to Winston Churchill is a must-see. Ask Joe to make a reservation for you at nearby restaurant with a Roman name which I can't remember.

“We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Church Gates”

We spent two nights here, in the en-suite room with a very large and comfortable bed and a fabulous library of gardening books to peruse. I also loved the spacious bathroom with a lovely deep tub to soak in. Beautiful situation in the middle of Cranbrook with a wonderful view of the church. Breakfast was magnificent, with local fresh fruit, cereals, large choice of cooked food including sausages and bacon from the local butcher. The owners were very friendly and hospitable. Good advice on where to go for dinner (we ate at The George. literally a minutes walk away) and on the wonderful gardens (like Sissinghurst, Marle Place, Pashley Manor – we were recommended lunch on the terrace which was wonderful - and Great Dixter which was looking particularly fabulous). Highly recommended.
