“Quite location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

I booked a double bedroom, although my girlfriend couldn´t do it, so I had the room for myself.
Nice views from a good sized room in the corner of the building. I don´t mind about old furniture, despite mattres could be renewed.
Good location, near Pyer Head, and quite area.
The only critic I could have was the cleanliness, with hairs in the shower and some tea stains on one of the bedside tables. I couldn´t have english breakfast because I had a race in the morning, but cereals, milk, toasts, etc were ok.
I would stay again.

thank you for your recent review of our accommodation, I am pleased to see that overall your stay was satisfactory and you would return.

The comments regarding the cleanliness have been discussed with the housekeeping department and I am grateful for you pointing out the standard which is below the standard we are aiming to acheive and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

I hope that if your return for one of the major sporting events which take place on the Isle of Wight we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the future.

thank you once again for your review.

“Bedrooms not as in the the web photos!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

Good Points: Location. Friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.

Bad Points: Bedrooms we had were VERY small and tired looking - not like the pictures Rear
room smelled of damp. Hairs in the shower. Very average breakfast - poor
sausages, flavourless beans. Overall very dated and tired looking hotel.

Wouldn't stay again or recommend.

Dear uri098

Thank you for your recent review, despite three messages via the trip advisor system no responce has been received. Our message was to identify the type of accommodation booked and the dates of the stay, as we have not received these details and can not identify this guest we can not be sure if this review is genuine.

The Photographs on the site are of our Premier doubles and standard twin and single en suite rooms and have been taken this year. With 23 rooms available we are unable to display a seperate photo of each room.

Our rooms are of different size depending on the type of room booked, our double rooms range from £48.00 per night to £77.50 per night for bed and breakfast this is the price for the two persons sharing. As we have been unable to identify your booking we are unable to comment further on the size.

We are concerned that you felt one of the rooms was damp and contained a hair in the bathroom and surprised that you did not bring this to our attention at the time of your stay.
Our breakfast menu offers Heinz baked beans and we are now serving Lincolnshire sausages we are sorry these were not to your personal taste.

We are located in an area just outside of the main town centre, our aim is to provide clean budget accommodation and friendly service. I am pleased that you appreciated the friendly service and location and hope that should you return to Ryde on some future occasion you will call in advance in order that we may show you the rooms as displayed on the website.

Once again thank you for your review.

“Hotel requires much needed TLC!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2011

I stayed in this B&B on 5th & 6th August whilst in I.O.W for a wedding. It looks pleasent from the outside and only 2/3 minute walk up hill from the seafront and 5 minute walk from Ryde town centre, with shops, bars and restaurants. Car park to rear of B&B very dificult to get into if you have a larger car... the street in which the car park entrance opens onto is very narrow (the entrance itself is tiny!!) with cars parked along one side, making turning extremely tricky. Plenty of parking space available here though. The entrance to the B&B opens into the shared living area/bar which is extremely dated and could do with redecorating ASAP (in my personal opinion). Checking in is from 2pm, but we were lucky enough to have a room which had already been made available on our arrival at 12pm. Our room was extremely small, with just enough room either the side of the bed to get in and out. Rooms again very dated and could do with some TLC. Bathroom tiny which just about fit the stand up shower, toilet and basin. Rooms have tea/coffee making facilities and LCD TVs with FreeView (however, our TV was wall mounted right next to our cupboard, making it impossible to open). Breakfast was great; a much needed full english breakfast with lots of juice and tea/coffee. The B&B was a little bit old fashioned for me, but cant complain about price and location.

Room Tip: Rooms on top floor facing away from main road have excellent views over Ryde and sea.

Dear Ms Nunn

Thank you for your recent review following your recent stay with us, we monitor reviews as a way of maintaining and improving our standards. I have discussed your comments with the members of staff concerned and wish to comment as follows:

Our car park which accommodates 15 cars is located at the rear of the bed and breakfast and due to our listed building status we are unable to remove the wall to enlarge the entrance. During the course of the year we accommodate many hundreds of guests and the majority of guests have no difficulty in entering the car park we agree it is tight but not impossible and transit vans for the commercial market negotiate the entrance.

I note in your opinion we were a little old fashioned, as a bed and breakfast we prefer to be old fashioned there are too many plastic modern facilities available and anybody looking for modern facilities should reserve a modern hotel like Travelodge or Premier both of these have outlets on the island. Although we are dated we try to ensure a high level of customer care and offer a friendly aproach where possible our facilities are functionable, clean and we do what it says on the lable bed and breakfast.

During the winter months we carry out a refubishment programme, daily we carry out maintenance where people have caused damage to the rooms. This particular room that you occupied needed even more tender loving care after your departure as we found one of the bedside lights smashed upon entering the room and a replacement has now been purchased.

I am delighted that you found plenty of parking space, you appreciated the early check in and you were pleased with the location and the costs we are budget accommodation and luxury is rarely found at budget prices.

Once again thank you for your review.

“No need for the Hotel Inspector to visit this establishment........”

Excellent value for money and clearly a well run operation. Negatives out of the way first. Slightly faded decor and the bedroom was somewhat sterile and unimaginative. However, the place was spotlessly clean and everything was super efficient. from the check in to the check out. At £41 per night for a single en suite, inclusive of breakfast it was excellent value. The Ritz it is not but if you are looking for a low cost base to see the local sites, I can heartily recommend this place.

thank you for your comments, as a small bed and breakfast we try to hard to improve and maintain our standards and it is pleasing when we feel our efforts have been noticed. We are certainly not the Ritz and don't aim to be and your summary details exactly what we are. Many thanks.

“Quiet location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 April 2011

As other reviewers have said - the hotel is a bit tired, but the room we had was perfectly fine and clean. A good choice was available at breakfast - the full English tasted good apart from the "hotel" sausages. Otherwise no complaints. We could even see the sea from our window. We didn't use the hotel bar or lounge and they did have a fair amount of "granny" furniture, but, hey, it's the Isle of Wight ! The staff were welcomng too. The hotel is ten minutes walk from the bus station, and is in a quiet spot - a couple of real ale pubs are a few minutes' walk away. I'd say that the hotel reflects Ryde - the town doesn't seem to attract many upmarket visitors to the IOW, which is a shame.
