Stayed here with friends in a family room when visiting friends in Tring. We have stayed here a couple of times before as it's the only option in Tring. The receptionist was incredibly helpful, friendly and welcoming and bent over backwards to find us a late-night pharmacy.
However the hotel is very shabby and run-down. Wallpaper coming off in sheets, very musty smell, tatty bathroom and old-fashioned TV.
As we just use it for somewhere to crash after a night out it doesn't matter too much but wouldn't be so good for a weekend away where the hotel is an integral part of the trip.

Where do I start? Outside of the hotel showed neglect, windows falling apart, rotting wood etc. Parts of the plaster screed had fallen off hmmm! Inside the room was worse. Wallpaper from the year dot was falling off and torn. The grout in the bathroom floor tiles had long since disappeared, leaving loose tiles, very dangerous. Unbelievably, we found the hairdryer in the bedroom corner BEHIND the tv, who on earth thought that was a good idea. Room one had a boilerhouse directly outside the window, which produced loud noise all night long from the boilers, NO SLEEP!! The receptionist tried to tell us that no one else had complained about this in room 1 but she did tell us that room 5 always complain. 07:00 on Sunday morning one of the staff decided to clean up outside our room banging around etc. £65 per night might initially sound good value but you can get better elsewhere and what price a good night's sleep!! Our comments to the staff produced no sympathetic response and certainly no reduction in the cost. We certainly won't use it again.
However, the breakfast was excellent, just a pity that the girl looking after the guests at breakfast couldn't pass on some of her customer care skills on to the receptionist!!

Wonderful Location and very impressive from the outside. The staff in the most were helpful and friendly. The rooms are a great size and are clean and comfortable.. But it was the little things that let this place down. It looks very tired; the Shower takes 10 mins to adjust the taps to get the right temperature as otherwise it is freezing or scalding. The TVs in the rooms look like a job lot off the scrapheap. Everything looks like it has been done on the cheap - which is fine for a Travelodge but not for a moderately expensive Hotel. Also no Internet which I find amazing in this day and age.
When we returned in the evening there was a Night Porter on duty who was very friendly but was not allowed to open the Bar. We were a large group and just wanted to sit in the bar and have a chat and a drink but we couldn't so It meant having to go to someone's room which was a real shame.
In summary great location, great sized rooms but let down by the fact that there are charging well above what the place is worth.

Stayed here for a weekend when visiting family in Tring as the hotel I usually stay at (in an adjacent town) was closed for refurbishment.

The other reviews for this hotel are pretty accurate, so I wont go into too many details here, but in summary:
+ great location in the centre of town
+ nice building with a bit of history
+ quick service at breakfast and reasonable quality food
+ got a pretty good rate
+ free parking in the centre of town

- hotel has a very tired feel to it, with old decor, threadbare and loose carpets, a slightly musty smell and a badly served bar.
- mattress was very soft, which did not result in a great nights sleep

That said, the hotel is clean and as long as you are looking for a nights accommodation and a decent breakfast, then you will have a pleasant stay. Not a location however for spending significant time in the hotel itself during the day - look elsewhere if you are looking to spoil yourself for a weekend
