A few months ago friends came to visit us and stayed in the White Horse Hotel. We all dined together in the restaurant on the Saturday night. It wasn't great! The food was mediocre at best and our friends were not impressed with the cleanliness or amenities of their rooms. Our friends wrote a letter of complaint - wanting the management to know how unsatisfactory they had found their experience.

They were invited back for a free night's accommodation which they took up last weekend. We joined them for dinner again and this time we were pleasantly surprised. The food was tasty and well presented - the service was wonderful and our dining experience was excellent.

Our friends found the accommodation much improved and enjoyed their overnight stay. The present management went out of their way to make amends for our earlier experience - and they certainly did this successfully!!!! Thanks so much.

We would definitely recommend the White Horse to anyone given our recent experience. The management and staff have clearly taken customer feedback 'on board' and are doing a fabulous job of turning the place around.

Finally, just a wee acknowledgement of the great staff. We had a lovely young woman looking after us during dinner and it added to our great experience.

We were looking for somewhere to stay in the area, and the White Horse Hotel was recommended by another hotel. The front of the hotel looks very attractive, an old coaching house, with a pub and restaurant. My heart sank when we drove to the back to park, a rather unattractive motel- looking block. My spirits were immediately lifted on entering the Reception, very warm, friendly and helpful service. We were given our keys etc. very quickly and directions to our room. This took a while to find as there are over 40 rooms, with lots of stairs and landings, and rather inadequate directions. Our room was a pleasant surprise, very spacious , impeccably clean, and at the back of the hotel so not above the bar. The bed was comfortable, although the quilt was a little thin for my liking and I wondered if I would be warm enough as it was early January - I was warm enough and slept well as it was incredibly quiet!. We had a good sized bathroom and TV and tea making facilities. Breakfast was very good, a choice of full English or continental. All in all I felt it was very good value for money. My only concern would be finding my way out if I needed to plus all the stairs would make it difficult for anybody with mobility problems.

If you are looking for a man size meal, well cooked, well presented that comes piping hot at a reasonable price then this is your kind of place to eat. Where my wife and I enjoyed a most handsome and enjoyable 3 course dinner from an extensive menu on a Travel Zoo Voucher.

That said, to my opinion the restaurant dining room is too large for a cosy dinner and it is better to arrive later rather than too early when the restaurant has still to fill up. There are two snugs to be had so, if you do want a quite corner it would be best to request at the time of booking. We were fortunate to secure one of these.

When we left the restaurant was booming. The only negative comment is, although the staff are young and do try very hard to make you welcome to be addressed as 'guys' is not the best way to speak with customers. Better to say nothing.

Av Costs: Starters £5.50. Mains £12.00. Desserts £5.00. House wine £5.00 for 250ml glass.

P.S As a local, I should like the management to consider having a monthly Friday or Saturday night Blues or Jazz Session. It would be an ideal venue to host such an event whilst taking dinner. Also, for anyone considering arranging a party to do 'The Hatfield Palace Banquet' then the White Horse is a very convenient place to stay overnight. In the past I have use the White Horse for such a purpose.

we stayed for two nights via groupon offer, the hotel is well run with helpful and pleasant staff Lisa went out of her way to make our stay special.The rooms are modern and clean.We had a very large bed in a large room.The restaurant was very busy .The food ok big portions No problems with getting the two glasses of that comes with the deal.A small village with one other pub,we eat there the next night and had a nice meal. .
