“Great hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

This is a really good hotel, it's a surprise to see the area that it is in but once you step inside it is just so calming and tranquil. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful , the room was lovely, the bed and bedding top class , no noise, lovely contemporary design.
Try the restaurant, it is top notch, the food was fantastic, so was the wine, we had good service even though they were very busy that night.
This hotel is a wonderful alternative to the usual hotels that we all use when passing through a town to go to the airport etc, the restaurant a wonderful alternative too.
Please try it , I'd go back!

Room Tip: Upgrade is worth it.

Thank you for your kind comments about Beales Hotel.

I am glad that you found the hotel to be calming, and that the bedroom and restaurant both surpassed your expectations.

I have always believed that a good hotel is one which under promises and over delivers - so many hotel and restaurant chains seem to do the opposite.

Perhaps it is the inherent modesty of most family businesses like ours that stops us shouting too loudly from the rooftops about our quality, which we take for granted.

It would be a pleasure to welcome you back to this lovely hotel some time when you are next in the area.

Thank you for taking the time to record the details of your stay on Tripadvisor.

Thank you for your kind comments following your visit to Beales Hotel with a Red Letter days voucher.

Although Hatfield in particular and Hertfordshire in general are not natural weekend break territory (like, say, the Cotswolds), it is surprising how much you can pack into a weekend in this area, from cinema and shopping right across the road in the Galleria, to the stunning Tudor Hatfield House five minutes away, and St Albans with its Norman cathedral just ten minutes away.

And the hotel offers complimentary membership of the huge Hertfordshire Sports Village nearby with pools, gym, climbing wall etc.

I am glad you enjoyed your visit and thank you for taking the time to record your experiences for the benefit of other Tripadvisor readers.

“Good for a few days on business”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. I have to say from the outside the building is very beautiful and I like its architecture. When we arrived at midnight we had issues checking in as the receptionist was not prepared at all and we later found out that he was not trained well enough to handle check-ins were the bill is already paid. So it took a while until we could get to our rooms. I personally did not like the room that much. It was very basic, had stains on the wall and the bath tub was somewhat dirty. I think the beds are very well done and comfortable and I like the fact that you get shower gels and other things. But one one occasion I did get a towel which had make up one which was not very pleasant...

Overall the hotel seems to be nice for business people, the bar is okay and also the restaurant is very nice. The outside area is probably nice in the summer. You have to look this hotel up not to be disappointed by its surroundings. As I stayed for business, it is okay.

I noticed a lot of times that there was no staff around and we had to wait in the bar, the restaurant and the reception for some time. Some of them did not even greet or look at you in a friendly way...

At the and I do have to say that 2 people really stood out, which is Akasha Cawson (who was always very friendly) and the chef! The food was absolutely great, not only the breakfast but especially the dinner! My compliments to the chef. Also, the cleaning staff seems to be very friendly, too.

Room Tip: There is no noise overall in the hotel, so regarding this, any room would be okay. I suppose the exe...

Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed comments following your stay at Beales Hotel.

You are right that we didn't check you in as quickly as we should have been due to the prepaid nature of the reservations voucher. Sorry, and we are addressing this with our team.

Your bedroom has already been repainted following your comments, but I am glad you found the bed comfortable and the bathroom well supplied with toiletries.

I am pleased too that you found the food to be good, and the welcome in the bar from Akasha to be warm and welcoming !

Do come again to Beales Hotel when you are next in the UK.

“Clean and modern, nice place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

Friendly reception staff and the room was clean and modern. I was impressed that the room had a controllable radiator and a separate air conditioning unit for cooling which meant I was actually able to control the temperature myself. There was a window which I could open, but was reluctant to as I had a ground floor room. The room contained original art - and I believe each room has it's own theme which is a nice touch.
I stayed for two nights - the first night I was there I couldn't get room service to answer the 'phone and there was no-one in the restaurant, though I waited for a while, so I walked across the road to the Hatfield Galleria and ate there (mostly chain restaurants e.g. Frankie & Bennys, Bella Italia, Chiquito, Harvester etc, but a good choice). I had no problems contacting room service on the second night and found the staff friendly and the food good.
The only issue I had (and this would be a one-time only so is unlikely to happen to anyone else) was around the upgrade of their invoicing system. When I arrived I was advised that they wouldn't be able to print my invoice on the morning of my departure so they would pre-authorise my card for any extras. I agreed to this so was disappointed when I was asked to provide my credit card details on a paper form when I checked out. As I said, I suspect this wouldn't happen again to another visitor but is worth double-checking things with reception.

I'd happily stay here again if I was in the area.

Room Tip: As a relatively new hotel I believe the rooms would be of a consistent standard, though being on the...

Thank you for your kind comments following your stay at Beales Hotel.

I am glad you had a good time and would come back again.

Sorry that the room service phone went unanswered on the first night, and sorry that we had a few teething problems with our server upgrade during your stay - this thankfully was only for one day and is complete now.

Do come again when you are next in the area - it would be a pleasure to welcome you back to this stunning hotel.

“A smart, ultra modern hotel with a superb restaurant.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

We have just returned from a saturday night at this excellent hotel which was very convenient for an event at the nearby University which my wife was attending.
On arrival, before the usual check-in time, we were very readily given immediate access to our quiet, comfortable and very well cleaned room by a charming English receptionist who proved to be an excellent PR face for Beales.
With hindsight we should have stayed for two nights so that we could have fitted in a second dinner in the Outsidein Restaurant which offers, from its fairly short menu, a truly excellent quality dinner at reasonable prices. Having both enjoyed the wonderful fillet steak which was cooked exactly as we had ordered, and I am very fussy indeed, we would have had the same again the evening after! The chef is to be highly commended, and the waitress was excellent too. Perhaps another time! Breakfast was also excellent at the 'special' rate of £10.
Having now retired I sometimes miss having to stay in nice hotels like this one when on business visits, almost regardless of tariff (!), and the special weekend rate we paid provided really good value, the hotel being almost empty. I can well appreciate why this hotel is usually fully booked during the working week.
The only suggestion that I can make concerns the website where there was some slightly confusing pricing information when I first looked at it a few days before our visit. The images and presentation were otherwise a very fair representation.

Room Tip: We were on the ground floor which was fine, but I would choose the first floor if the hotel was full...

Thank you for your kind comments on Tripadvisor after your stay at Beales Hotel.

I am glad that you used the hotel as a base for a trip to the university - we were delighted to join forces with the University of Hertfordshire fine art department when building the hotel in 2004 - the second and third year students provided us with all the stunning artwork seen around the hotel, all done to a superbly high standard.

We have continued adding to the artwork every since and now have almost 120 original works of art throughout the hotel, including one in every bedroom - indeed the bedroom is named after the work of art within.

Sorry there was a website mixup in the post Christmas period - this was quickly rectified by the third party provider once they all got back to work !

I am glad you enjoyed the restaurant - we have just had an AA inspection and have come out with two AA rosettes and a top four star rating so are very pleased about that.

It would be a great pleasure to welcome you and your wife back to this hotel in the future, and you might like our sister West Lodge Park hotel as well, with its 35 acres of rolling gardens.
