“Comfortable, dog-friendly hotel in idyllic location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We spent a single night here as I had a low season voucher as a birthday gift to use up. We were in the Henry Adams wing so the dogs could be with us. This is the newer build. It was very comfortable. We loved the little food and drink treats left for us with a generous supply of quality tea and coffee. Great huge bed, friendly staff, warm and cosy and a super cooked breakfast. Fabulous Hollandaise sauce- the best ever! We didn't try the restaurant for dinner as we walked into Beaulieu and back in the dark(!) for supper and to tire the dogs. The Master Builders location is beautiful with lots of walks near the river. Many photo opportunities. We recommend thoroughly.

Room Tip: Couldn't get wi fi in the Henry Adams block although you can in the main building.

“A unique hotel in a historic setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Nowhere else quite like it with its historic setting in what was a napoleonic era shipbuilding centre. The 'Master Builder' was shipbuilder Henry Adams and the historic part of the hotel was his house.
Bucklers Hard is in the New Forest and the hotel overlooks the Beaulieu river. There are many other interesting places not far away.

“Phone stolen from room!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012 via mobile

We arrived at this lovely hotel in beautiful surroundings and were informed that we had been upgraded to the attic room in the main house for our overnight stay.
We had a very pleasant day exploring the surrounding area and a comfortable night in our room. The following day we went down to breakfast and were ticked in from a list of rooms attached to a clipboard which was left on the side outside the restaurant for anybody to see............ this was a little concerning. After our breakfast we returned to our room 25 minutes later to find that my phone which had been left on charge had been stolen and there was a strong smell of aftershave.......... Not my boyfriends fragrance so i instantly knew someone had been in our room but there was no sign of a break in meaning someone had let themselves in with a key.
I ran straight down to reception to report this and staff came to our room to help search but i knew exactly where my phone had been left, I must also add that there was NO SAFE IN OUR ROOM TO LOCK VALUABLES IN.
The manager was called and went into his explanation of procedures where the master key was concerned........... None of which had been followed as no one was due to enter our room until after we had checked out!
Police were called but were powerless as the manager had apparently already searched his staff even though this was 3 hours after the incident had happened (therefore enough time to stash a phone somewhere safe)
What could have been a lovely stay turned out the complete opposite and very costly for us.
Whilst i would recommend this hotel for its style, comfort and location, i would not recommend it for security.

Although this incident happened some 9 months ago, it remains nonetheless deeply regrettable and unsolved. There is a safe at reception where guests may deposit their valuables if they wish, but in our off-the-beaten-track countryside location security issues are fortunately extremely rare.

“Really lovely winter week-end”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We booked this week-end through an offer on "Anna at Voyage Prive", and felt it was a very good deal.
We really liked the hotel - the staff were excellent, friendly and helpful, and our room (in the Henry Adams wing) was very comfortable, and unlike a lot of hotels, we had a lot of storage and hanging space. We ate in the bar, rather than the restaurant - a bitterly cold week-end but log fires were constantly roaring away, giving a very cheery atmosphere. The breakfast (included) was varied and generous, and cooked to order - and with a lovely view out over the river.
We bought our tickets for Beaulieu Motor Museum from the hotel, at a reduced price, and enjoyed our trip there - the James Bond cars are on show for 2012.
We would definitely go back to this hotel, and would like to try others in their group.

Room Tip: We think we'd like a river view next time, which would mean paying more and staying in the main...

“Some very nice touches here”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

When I arrived check in was good but there was a problem with the heating in my room no.4 and it was very cold. I complained and was told I was not alone, after 30 minutes I was moved to room 31 which was compact with low ceiling and sloping walls and I kept bruising my head against the fire detector! Very pleasant bathroom, excellent tea and coffee making facility with bottled water available.
There was paint flaking around the window frame and the windows were dirty.
Lovely open fires in residents lounge and the bar but they struggled to heat the place to a comfortable level for me anyway.
I had a pleasant dinner in the dining room on the second night of my stay but I was sat by the window and I was very cold and just had a main course then went for a warm up in my very comfortable bed with fine linen and super pillows.
