Imagine a run down youth hostel where they can't afford cleaners and the maintainence man retired three years ago....... Got it?

Sleep in the car instead.

Having read the reviews on here i didnt hold out much hope for my stay but Travelodge has never let me down before as i know what to expect.
I stayed here for the festive period and was checked in by a lovely gentleman who was friendly and helpful, when we got to our room a welcome letter was on the bed explaning the cleaning service over the festive period with local taxi numbers and places to eat as well as opening times, it also had directions back to southampton! I thought this was a lovely touch and very welcomed as the receptionist was often away from the desk painting.
My room was Clean & tidy but it had seen better days in need of repair.
We could hear road noise but it didnt really bother us.
It did pose a problem when trying to get anywhere as you can only go one way! so it was a long old trip to southampton and back everyday. other fab i would recomend

Used this hotel for the festive period as it was close to the family, but have since regreted my decision and it spoilled our visit. The hotel has definetly seen better days. The room was dirty and there was no mattress cover on the bed and despite complaining about this nothing was done.Ended up buying our own cover. The room was not cleaned daily only the rubbish bin emptied. There was no information given about housekeeping arrangments over the festive period and thus no extra towel where left to cover the lack of housekeeping. A very poor standard of hotel and service. Not in the best location for visiting Southampton as it's a 20 mile round trip to get back to where you started. All in all a very disappointing stay. Would not recommend to anyone.

This hotel is not the best Travelodge in the country ! I've stayed here three or four times, but only really as a 'stop-over' en-route to somewhere else. The building is quite old, and some of the furniture has seen 'better days' but it serves its purpose. The Little Chef attached aside, there are no pubs or other eating places within walking distance, as it's on the main A31 in the New Forest, so if you don't like Little Chef and don't want to drive more, take your own food and drink ! The whole surrounding area is pitch black at night, so you cannot really walk far from it safely. If you stay there, you're better off arriving late due to it's isolation - just use it for sleeping. You cannot get to it from the eastbound A31 - you'll need to do a u-turn at the roundabout just before the M27 starts if heading east.
