“Combining 60's and Tudor charm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2011

As a groupon deal we were not sure of what to expect. All staff were courteous and helpful at all times. The room was faded but OK and the bed unexpectedly comfortable. The hotel was quaint with old world charm, although the lift was an experience - somewhat like a dumb waiter - for one person and some luggage. The restaurant was good and the menu - although not extensive and the same on consecutive nights, was excellent. The town was very pretty and of course the new forest a clear tourist draw. This hotel was a delight and is to be commended for a clear effort to get everything right.

“A friendly hotel well situated in the heart of the New Forest”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011 via mobile

Stated here with a walking group and after reading some
Previous reviews expectations weren't high. However from the friendly reception through to well furnished room and surprisingly good food for a large hotel catering for groups, I was very pleasantly surprised and would definitely stay again.

“No way a 1 out of 5”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

We, like so many other Groupon voucher users, like a good deal, and we thought it was ok. I had pre-warned my wife not to expect too much, having read the scathing reviews. Our verdict - we would go again sometime. The facade was a bit of a shock, inside was tired but OK. Our room looked like it had been refurbished, was comfortable and clean. The meals we had were better than average and the staff were very friendly, albeit under pressure from a lack of them.
Tried 3 of the local pubs, but didn't have a decent pint in one of them.

Thank you for your kind and supportive comments, we are a little tired and dated but have plans to address this issue in the winter months, my team continue to be as hospitable as always and go that little extra if they can. Sorry to hear about the bad beer, The Ringwood best in the hotel was fine!

Kind regards

“If Only”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

If only the hotel had more staff - particularly in the dining room - this would be a good stay. The poor deputy manager seems to be the Jack-of-all-trades and appears day and night no matter what service is required from luggage porter on arrival to room TV adjuster and Head Waiter as required.
One has to laugh at the lift as it has to be the smallest I've ever seen in a hotel and will literally only take one person with one suitcase. Malfunctions are regular occurrences as demonstrated by the explicit directions on how to deal with them which are clearly displayed in the lift - scary!
My wife and I went on a 'Groupon' break and it is the first time that we have found that the dinner menu folder contains a special 'Groupon Dinner' menu - separate and slightly inferior to the one for the other guests. An unpleasant addition to the usual 'Groupon' hotel breaks
and one I would not wish see as a widespread custom.
We enjoyed our stay - If only the dining room had been better staffed we would have enjoyed this stay even more.

Room Tip: Rooms to the rear of the hotel and away from the wedding suite are best

Jack certainly is a master of all trades and was pleased to see your comment, sometimes in the hotel game those days do happen and you have to cover all tasks in all areas all at the same time, clearly this was one of those days ,we responded very quickly to the feedback given about the menu and can confirm that Groupon Guests are no longer singled out for special treatment, I assure you that it was with good intentions that we made the special presentation however concede that it simply gave the wrong impression.
We also get quite a few comments about the lift but do assure you it is safe and receives regular attention from our maintenance contractor.

Thank you for your helpful feedback

Kind regards

“Birthday Treat for husband”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

This hotel is in a great location. To the right is the New Forest and left is the main high street for quaint little shops and tea rooms.
We arrived Friday team time and were warmly welcomed - easy check in and a lovely four poster bed room over looking the gardens and outdoor pool.
The restuarant was lovely and one lady in particular ( the restuarant manager i think) was very informative and welcoming. Telling us about the hunt the next day and what was going on in the local area.
Breakfasts were also good with cold buffet and hot buffets.
If i am being picky- the following things were a pain. The coffee tray is near the TV but you would have to go behind the tv and unplug it to use the kettle there - we boiled the kettle on the floor near the dressing table. Also we had to ask for shower gel and milk.
It would be nice if there was a sign on the door to the bedrooms asking users to remember to respect that other guests may be sleeping. There was a wedding there when we were there and they were very noisy when they headed to bed.
Overall i would stay here again though.

Room Tip: All rooms over looking the garden would be lovely

Thank you for your kind supportive comments about the Hotel in particular the comments made about my restaurant manager and the welcome you received upon arrival, we do try very hard to make people welcome in our humble home but as you point out we do have some great rooms here at the Hotel and we have made an effort to ensure our breakfast is special so am pleased that this shows through. I have also noted your attention to detail points highlighted and will review the detail.

Kind regards
