“excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

this was the first hotel we stayed in when we arrived in the UK. it was wonderful and we couldn't have picked a better place to start our first visit to the UK. we wanted to get the historical aspect of the UK and not as much as the tourist attractions. the hotel was a little overwhelming at first, but we overcame our fears and were very pleased with our choice. the community of Havant was wonderful. We visited Faith Church, and a little pub, just a short walk from the hotel, a chat with the Pastor at Faith put the significant historical prospective in place for us, with the Church being on the road to the Crusades. Needless to say we were overwhelmed by our stay in Havant and at the Bear Hotel. We had a really nice waitress in the morning at bfst, i think her name was Lily, and the bfst was the best we had during our 2 week stay, lots of variety.

“Friendly and Comfortable but also Shabby”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

We enjoyed our stay at the Bear and would happily go again, especially if we find another special offer!
Our Special offer visit, was at a rate of £19.98 for two which included a huge cooked breakfast!
The beds looked new as did the bedding, and the 32 inch Toshiba LCD TV. The towels were decent, two, being huge.
The room was warm and welcoming even during this really bitter cold weather that we have been experiencing.
The tiles in the bathroom sparkled but the the floor corners were not 100% pristine, and of course the staff never do look at the inside of the door! But everything was generally clean and tidy. The carpet, secondary glazing and window frames need replacing, and the whole hotel is in need of a make over.
The food offer of two mains for £9.95 was good, and all the food generally tasty and acceptable.
The staff were all friendly and seemed happy to help.

The sheets/ bed = very comfy
The breakfast was delicious
The location is great and the parking ample

Cons:
It's bloody freezing
It looks in dire need of a make over - all a bit grubby
Grouchy service on arrival
No card payments in the bar (unacceptable)

“A lovely nights stay”

A lot of the reviews for this hotel are totally unfair. When we arrived yes there was a smell of mouldy carpets at the entrance, which does not give a good first impression.A cheap remnant down here would clear that up.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, not a grumpy one in sight.
The food was excellent, and plenty of it.
The room was warm, clean and cheery. Bed very comfortable.Flat screen T.V on the wall with new's channels, entertainment channels.A hair dryer, iron and ironing board.
The hotel itself is old and yes a little tired in places. But it's not a travelodge or a premier inn, its a hotel with character and charm.
we would definatly stay here again
We are not related to any one at this hotel, as another trip adviser comented for any good reviews on this hotel.

Room Tip: we stayed in room 40 a double room over looking the car park
