“Reunion”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

Last weekend in January 2012, we held an ex-works reunion at the Holiday Inn in Farnborough (our Dinners used to be here many years ago when it was the Queen's Hotel). The event Co-ordinator was exceptionally friendly and helpful while we were making the arrangements and they were happy to cater for a guest with special dietary requirements - we even had a message back directly from the Head Chef!

The staff on duty on the night of the event were, without exception, courteous and helpful. We needed another trestle table brought through as we had loads of photographs turn up, and it was organised very quickly and without any fuss. I was also given a good, discreet warning of the bar closing so everyone had time to top up if they wanted to.

Would thoroughly recommend as a hassle-free and surprisingly cost effective venue for any event - we will definitely be booking our next reunion there!

“A Very Happy New Year Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Brought in the New Year at the Holiday Inn Farnborough and had a great time. Although very busy, the food and the service from the staff was first class The entertainment through to the early hours was excellent with the dance floor full of partygoers with a wide range of music for all age groups. Had a very comfortable room for the much needed rest at the end of the night.

Room Tip: I have stayed in a few rooms in this hotel and have always been very satisfied.

“What a difference friendly and efficient staff make”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

I stayed for six nights over the Christmas break with my daughter at this hotel. I managed to get a brilliant 58% discount online before we went. We had a great time primarily because all of the hotel staff were so helpful, courteous and genuinely so. There was a large group of Saga holidaymakers staying there at the same time. The only difficulty we had was the first night when a function in the ballroom went on till very late and people coming back from it were noisy (as is usually the case with this sort of thing). I was annoyed because I specifically asked when booking for a quiet room and I was assured on reception when I checked in that there would be no noise. I went down the next morning and did mention it to a different receptionist. He was very helpful and apologised and said that should not have happened. He checked there were no other functions in that part of the hotel for the rest of our stay. I have to say that from that point on the hotel was very quiet. In fact when I checked out and went to finalise my bill the same receptionist waived the cost of our two cappucinos.
We had our Christmas Dinner there too and the restaurant was packed. We had difficulty trying to book a table but again the restaurant staff were very helpful and we got a cancellation. Breakfast was a decent selection of continental and hot breakfast.
We enjoyed the bar which was quiet but again had great chats with the young bar staff there which was good for my daughter as she is 18.
We really enjoyed ourselves. There is an small pool, jacuzzi and sauna and steam rooms with a gym perfectly adequate for what we wanted. There are plenty of good walks around the area outside of Aldershot around the ranges and beyond.
A comfortable and restful place and it is one of the designated hotels for the 2012 Olympics we noticed.

Dear roobarbancustard,

Thank you for posting a review on the Trip advisor site. I thought your title was great and glad that was the lasting impression of the hotel for you.

“What a difference friendly and efficient staff make”

I was glad to read that despite the room you were allocated was not as quiet as it should have been on the 1st night, the staff went out of there way on more than one occasion to make you feel more comfortable and enjoy your stay.

Your comments have been passed on to the team.

Hopefully see you again soon.

Kind Regards

“Overall happy but one or two improvements required.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

We stayed here for one night over the Christmas holiday. Check in was carried out by a very professional lady who made us feel most welcome.

Our room was in a newer part of the hotel and, as requested, on an upper floor. Moving from the old building to the new involved walking along a very creaky floor that made us glad the room was not in its immediate vicinity! There did not appear to be a lift near the main staircase but there may have been one elsewhere.

The room itself was quiet, clean and standard Holiday Inn style but one criticism is that the duvet was the same width as the bed meaning that once two bodies were lying side by side the duvet was not wide enough to provide adequate cover!

We entered the dining room the next morning about half an hour before they stopped serving breakfast. A pleasant young lady started showing us to a table only to be halted by an older waitress who said we couldn't sit there because she was resetting the tables for lunch. Hot on our heels another couple came in who were seated at the first table by the restaurant manager - so much for what had been said to us! It really annoys me when this sort of thing happens - they surely could wait until breakfast is finished before laying up lunch!

Having eaten more than we should the previous day we opted for continental style breakfast. The croissants were not very fresh which even though the shops/suppliers had been closed for a couple of days should not have been the case. Surely they could have been frozen and brought out 'fresh' for guest's consumption.

We were pleasantly surprised to be offered the opportunity for members of our family to join us during the morning to enjoy the spa facilities. This was a generous gesture on behalf of the hotel and was gratefully accepted.

Finally we checked out with a young man on the reception desk. On presenting our bill I pointed out to him that the newspaper we had ordered and received was 25p dearer than shown. He disappeared behind the scenes and returned with a new account showing the extra cost which I don't have a problem with as in all honesty it was due but it would have been nice if he had thanked me for pointing it out! I would also say (although I didn't to him) that this has been happening for a while now at another Holiday Inn I use from time to time but there they not only thank me for pointing out the error but they also waive the extra! But as I have said I mustn't moan because it was due.

Overall we were happy with the accommodation provided at Farnborough's Holiday Inn but one or two things and one or two members of staff could do with improving. However we would be happy to stay here again.
