“Jazzy escape!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We came to stay to add some luxury to a softball weekend nearby. And it certainly offset the camping the next night!

It was a lovely big room with a gorgeous bathroom. Great tea and coffee facilities (yes, obsessed with tea and I love having hot chocolate and biscuits in the room as it feels like a treat!)

It's nice to be able to walk over to the bar. There was a live jazz band playing and, if you are so inclined, a live Take That tribute band next door! Lots going on, but it was so chilled out. Had a few drinks, lots of pictures to look at and comfortable sofa to relax on.

Sat out in the garden on the way back to the room. Sat on a swing bench and stargazed. It is a lovely place.

Next morning, the breakfast buffet was amazing. Loads of choice and the option of a cooked meal. The interior is beautifully quirky and there's a good view outside too.

All in all, it's a lovely, relaxing place you'll remember for all the right reasons.

“Good rate and good service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Main tip would be not to go through late rooms but if last minute to book direct with the hotel which was £14.50 less than late rooms were advertising. Room was fairly small (12) but on ground flloor and overlooking garden but was cosy and more than OK for one night. Receptionaist was very helpful and friendly. All usual extras in room of luxury hotels at half the price! My only critism would be that the air conditioning unit didnt seem to be that effective - but you could open the window!! Nice flat screen tv and large towels.
Agree not luxurioussoft furnishigs but certainly clean and tidy.
Access to the Mouldy Fig restaurant for breakfast ( absolutely delicious) and for evening meal which was reasonable and good variety menu was an added bonus. Tip - they serve afternoon tea if you arrive between 3 and 6.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms overlooking the garden

“Jazz Club - Nice! ( with apologies to the Fast Show!)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

This is a lovely hotel with an very good attached restaurant/wine bar in the Mouldy Fig and a Jazz club - The Concorde Club. The hotel accommodation and the Restaurant/Jazz Club are separate so there is not risk of any noise disturbing your stay.

The rooms were well laid out and each is named after an accomplished Jazz performer, all of whom played at the Concorde Club. This gives each room a little history and a "story" and is a nice touch My room was dedicated to Hank Jones, a jazz pianist, who played at the club n the 24th of October 1984!

The standard of furnishings in the room was very good, especially considering this is a three star hotel. The room was spacious and comfortable, whilst the bed was large and was just the right side of firm. There was a flat screen TV (with freeview) and complimentary internet access. There was also a good choice of decent quality refreshments.

The bathroom was also a good size with the standard fittings, which were spotlessly clean and in good order. A nice selection of decent quality toiletries were provided.

The room I had was at the front of the hotel and faced the car park but there was no noise. The hotel itself is set back form any roads in secluded grounds so it really is a peaceful spot.

The food in the Mouldy Fig restaurant is very good. There is a good and varied selection on the menu and the quality of the ingredients and the presentation is high. The meals we had there was delicious and the portion size was generous to say the least. There was also a good, well priced wine list to help wash things down. The bar had a small but varied choice of refreshments available, including local ales, which is always nice to see.

The breakfast the following morning was cooked to order and was lovely with a very generous serving. There was a large choice of options from toast to a full English. A request for a poached egg caused no difficulties!

I understand that residents are entitled to visit the attached jazz club. I didn’t have a chance to do this as we arrived late and wanted to eat although I understand it has a good reputation in the live music world.

The only downside was that at 11PM the staff were very keen to be away and made it clear they wanted you out! Whilst not wanting a late night it would have been nice to finish our drinks in our own time and turn in at about mid night.

Overall i was very impressed and would be more than happy to both stay there again and recommend it to other people.

“Great Hotel but Its all about the Lovely People”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

I have been staying at the Ellington Lodge Hotel for nearly 5 years, spending between 50 and 100 nights a year there. Not posh but a very nice and personable hotel. The rooms are spacious comfortable and clean, with the added benefit of being positioned in beautiful surroundings. The Moldy Fig restaurant has a good varied menu that is changed regularly; it also has lovely views across the stream and lawns to the hotel. In addition there is the added bonus of live jazz in the Moldy Fig some evenings.

A hotel, for me, isn’t just about the building and the rooms, it’s about the people, and how you are treated. Over the years, the owner, management team and staff have become friends and they do everything they can to make you feel comfortable. I would be very happy to recommend the Ellington Lodge Hotel to anyone. Give it a try just say Bob Barnes sent you!

My son and grandson stayed in August en route to Peppa Pig World, they said it was friendly clean and breakfast was lovely. I booked the hotel for them and he wanted me to send this feedback for him. Many thanks
