“not impressed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

we were not very impressed with the accommodations, the first room we were placed at was the very last room in the Hotel, we had to go through a maze to get to it, this was not their last available room, just the furtherest one away, the rooms were not all full. we booked our room through a Go As You Please program and felt they gave us the worst choice in rooms because of this. the toilet would not flush and when we asked for another room, we were offered what we thought was the 2nd furthest away room, when we asked for a room closer to the main door, we were given one right behind the reception desk, down the hall, we thought it was amazing how they would have a room so close to the entrance after giving us the furthest ones in the beginning. we had tomato soup during supper which i am positive came from a can. this was my least favorite experience of our 2 week vacation in the UK

“Ideal budget hotel; ticks all the boxes that you'd expect at this price.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

This is a budget hotel and the facilities reflect this, perhaps a fact that other reviewers may have forgot. I see that one reviewer has criticised the hotel as there are no streetlights on the public road about a mile away from the hotel! (For the record the road that the hotel owns does have streetlighting!)
We stayed in a small room with an ensuite, and, as said before, everything was as you would expect for a budget hotel: an adequately sized double bed which was both clean and comfortable, a basic TV with terrestrial channels, a clean, small but functional bathroom, and good tea/coffee facilities.
Breakfast was excellent, especially as we arrived 5 minutes before it was due to close, loads of choice and the hot food was cooked well. I felt perhaps the bar was a touch pricey, (Pint Magners £4), however that is an average price for a hotel.
I only met one member of staff but he was attentive, professional and willing to have a little chat! He even accommodated a few cheeky requests we had, such as taking the milk jug from breakfast back to the room!
The hotel is set in quite a unique location. It is a ten minute walk to the centre of town (although it's downhill so expect a little longer on the way back!) however it really doesn't feel like this when you are in the hotel. To the rear of the hotel is the rolling fields and countryside that Hampshire is famous for.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel for anyone that is looking for somewhere basic and economical, and that is by no way a criticism of the facilities.

“Overnight stay OK.....but needs a facelift”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

We needed an overnight stay en route to a wedding. The quality hotel fitted the bill in terms of location and price. Easy access from main road to London and good parking. Room was comfortable and breakfast enjoyable. The lounge would benefit from an overhaul and bar service could have been a little better. Staff were friendly and helpful. Overall it felt a bit like a motel (Travelodge etc) and I would hestitate to book for more than a short stay.

Thank you for your feed back.

We have been renovating the hotel. Most of the en-suite rooms are complete.

We are just entering into the last phase which includes the public areas.

I have passed your comments regarding the bar service onto the staff concerned.

“OK, but not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

Just returned from a one night stay at the Quality Hotel. The hotel iself in general looks like it needs a face lift, it feels tired and dated.

Our room was fine, clean, but the toilet did smell of urine, which wasnt great! The room was freezing cold and we had to call reception 3 times before they gave us an electric heater. Even with this, 2 blankets and pjs, it was still cold.

We had a double room that had a small bathroom/shower, massive wardrobe and a small double bed, that was miles away from the bedside tables. I got the impression it may have been a twin room they changed to a double. We did have tea and coffee in the room which was nice.

4 of us stayed and 3 had stomach upsets the following day. We only ate and drank at the hotel, but couldnt tell you what caused it! The spirits and ontap soda tasted watered down, but thats just my opinion and not fact.

I wouldnt stay here again as Im sure there are other choices availble. That said staff were really friendly and helpful.

Apart from the heating issue you did not make one complaint during your stay. The hotel is currently being refurbished. Virtually all the en-suites have been completed, as you say 'your room was fine'. We have reached the last phase of the refurbishment which involves the public areas. The rooms are cleaned daily and certainly on inspection the bathroom smelt clean.

We accept there was a problem with the heating which was due to our new boiler. Management has resorted to using forensic testing to establish the fault. No establishment can legislate for this type of problem and everyone experiences these types of problems from time to time. The weather on your overnight stay was not freezing but actually a mild night. In normal circumstances the heating would be turned down overnight so it is difficult to understand why with an electric fire and adequate covers you should feel cold. Again had you registered your concern with management the problem would have been fully addressed.

At this point I wish to remind you that the whole purpose of tripadvisor is to share your FACTUAL experience and NOT unwarranted accusations.

Although your comments are followed by exclamation marks or your 'opinion' you have strongly implied that your stomach upsets are due to the food and that the hotel is engaging in illegal practice by watering the drinks down. Firstly, the manager is a Fellow of Innkeepers and adheres to the code of conduct to the letter. No other guests suffered any stomach problems

“Pleasant stay/convenient and good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

I had occasion to stay at your property for 2 nights - 26AUG/27AUG to attend a family
wedding in Hatherden. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Everyone was very friendly and
helpful; and the breakfast was very good. In spite of construction being done at
the time, every effort was made not to inconvenience clients.

The hotel and grounds were very clean and cheerful. I am a Travel Agent in America at this time, and I will certainly recommend the hotel to any clients I have coming to the Andover area. I grew up in Hampshire and went to Andover Grammar School.

I thank you for your comments and very pleased you enjoyed your stay.

Hampshire is a beautiful County. The scenic view of Andover can be fully enjoyed from the Hotels enviable location, I do hope you experienced this during your stay..

As you are aware the hotel is undergoing a massive refurbishment but we are approaching the final phase now. The finishing touches make all the difference as I am sure you will agree if you are able to visit us again.
