“An enjoyable stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

I had stayed here for the one night as I had a driving experiance at Thruxton, which is located just down the road from the travelodge. I was a little concered about the place with the previous reviews, but I had a very pleasent experiance/ stay.
the room was clean, and the rest of the room was clean and acceptable. The travelodge is only 10/15 min drive from andover so if you want pub food or supermarkets / shops then thats the best place to visit.
The recpectionest was very friendly and when asked about where to east / drink she was very helpful
The only downside I have wit hthe place, was that the room I had was at the front and when the window was open you could hear the trafice from the A303, but once this was closed then this was not a problem.
Overall I had no problems with this place, and would recomend to friends or family.

“The worst place we have ever stayed!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2010

Myself and my wife had our worst ever hotel experience in the Barton Stacey Travelodge. I am a regular business traveller with Travelodge and stay in their hotels regularly so when my wife and I needed to stay overnight in Winchester I immediately booked a room for £60 at the nearest Travelodge.

Used to your normally good standard my worries began when as we arriving to a the smell of cigarette smoke at reception...aren’t all Travelodge’s supposed to be smoke free??

And although the outside of the building was showing signs of age, we were not prepared by what we found in the hotel room. It was completely disgusting for several unforgivable reasons:

1. Awful smell of sweat that hit you as soon as you opened the room door
2. The whole Bedroom felt damp
3. Carpets was not hovered
4. Grit and debris in the bed sheets
5. Dust and dirt on most surfaces...including a dead fly
6. Filthy WC
7. Water on bathroom floor
8. Mouldy and dirty tiles/grout/bath
9. Hairs in the grubby bath tub

We are appalled that such a room is even available for sale and for £60!! We had to leave right away and informed that lady on the front desk how horrified we were. She was understanding and did not seem overly surprised by these issues (which makes me think they have been a problem for a while). I asked for a refund and she took my card details to return the money - only saving grace.

This hotel should not be open for business and is really an embarrassment to Travelodge. At £60 per room per night this really is a disgrace.

“Overpriced and in need of renovation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2010

We booked one night as it was close to a wedding we were attending. Needing to get changed before the 3pm start we phoned ahead for an early check-in, the cost is £10.00 on top of the £61.00 we paid in advance on line, excessive in our opinion. Enquiring about breakfast we discovered that the only option is a "breakfast bag" for £4.50 despite the website and our invoice leaving us to believe that breakfast was included.
The room was in dire need of renovation and a good cleaning. Mould on the walls, ceiling and tiles of the bathroom. Stains on the furniture and the net curtain. The carpet had not been vacuumed either. The receptionist was both helpful and pleasant however and deserves better.
In short, find somewhere else, the local pubs, we heard later, were very welcoming with a full english breakfast, clean and welcoming rooms and in the same price bracket.

“A disgrace to the travelodge chain”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2010

You stay in a travelodge for a no frills room that's reasonable priced and clean right? Generally you leave having recieved what was expected as they're pretty standard. Here though I left really quite angry.

The place is old and grimey. Dead insects, not well cleaned. I don't mind so much that the bathroom was dated but it's the mould between the tiles and the holes in the wall where they didn't bother retiling and just used polyfiller which started to wind me up, along with the cracked sealant round the bath. All this I could excuse though. It's an older hotel and they don't have much competition in the area (believe me I looked). It's when it doesn't actually deliver what's promised that gets me angry. They make a big deal on their website that they shave off the frills to concentrate on what people want - a good bed and shower. Well the bed wasn't great but the shower was unusable! Difficult to work, near impossible to get to a temperature I could stand but then I stepped in after ten minutes fiddling only to find I was too tall to stand underneath it. I'm 5 foot 4, so not exactly huge but I had to crouch to get under the fixed showerhead. Not how you want to start your day.

Also we arrived at 1am and when we entered the room the window had been left open and so the room was cold. The heater did not work and so we were cold all night. I was given a look when we arrived as I asked for an extra towel (I like one for my hair) and told that there would be two in the room already. When we left the next morning the wasn't anyone in reception to bring our concerns up with so we just posted our key and left.

In short I would avoid this travelodge unless you have no other choice. There is a holiday inn a bit further along I will try next time, or I will stop at the days inn at fleet services. I feel £55 is not cheap enough to justify the horrid bathroom.

“Lovely receptionist, quiet, could be cleaner”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2009

Receptionist was friendly and helpful and she is definitely an asset to travelodge. I am a very light sleeper but we'd been given a room on the side away from the little chef and it was really quiet. First time I've been in a travelodge that wasn't vastly overheated on arrival. There was a radiator in the room but you need to switch it off well before you go to bed.

Standard travelodge room - room adequately clean and linen spotless but the weighted hem of the shower curtain had specks of mould. There was also mould on the window frame. The cleaner needs to take some bleach to it.

The hotel is just after the turn off signposted to Barton Stacey, the directions on the website could be improved.

You pay for internet access at travelodges but at the Little Chef (which is just feet away) you can have free access.

Adequate hotel for a stopover, not a location you'd want to stay at for long.
