“Excellent Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Our stay at the Swan Hotel was very pleasant. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Our room was clean but a little on the small side. The food was excellent and the bar was busy with locals. All in all very good value for money. I have read a few of the previous comments and cannot comprehend some of the remarks being made. Some people need to take a LONG HARD look at themselves. You get what it says on the tin. If it's 5* luxury they are looking for then they should have booked the Hilton! I will personally be recommending The Swan to all of my family and friend.

“Great Family Room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We stayed here last year on the back of a cracking deal by the chain. What appealed to us is the fact they have a room which has a twin room off it, ideal for our kids. The hotel has been recently refurbished which made a huge difference. Staff were excellent although food not so good, but as its cheap its not too surprising.

Room Tip: If you have kids ask for the room with a twin off it, we had it for the same price as a normal room

“Good British Hotel - Good overall, nothing too Jazzy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Spent 4 days in Basingstoke on business and decided to stay slightly out of town in Alton. This Hotel seemed obvious choice for Alton.

First impressions are good, very big carpark which is free for guests, nice decorative entrance at the front and rear. Large comfortable and warm lounge area loads of seating in the bar too.

Restaurant was asthetically good, and comfortable, food was 'just ok' nothing too adventurous, I had the sizzling duck which was pretty boring, colleague had the rib eye steak which was good but again not overly impressed. Probably would try some of the takeaways if i stayed here again. Thats what we did on the other nights, there is a subway, an indian and a kebab house on the same street.

Breakfast was good, apart from the crossants, looked great but not cooked, all mushy on the underside this was disapointing on the pallet but not enough to ruin the day, cooked breakfast was very good especially eggs benedict and poached eggs on toast, im not hard to please.

The room was surprisingly big for an english hotel, warm and comfortable, I had a seperate toilet room to the shower room but obviously all within the confines of my room so that was fine. quite nice actually. Paper delivered as requested each morning before i was up so nothing to complain about there. Also the TV was great, loads of digital channels and nice hot chocolate to go with it!
View of the Alton highstreet was as expected....

In regards to the Staff i was very pleased to find that they were all British (atleast they were when i was there), no language barrier issues as you may find in hotels closer to London. The staff were all very nice, slightly ruffled male receptionist, but he can be forgiven for this as he seemed to be there night and day.

This is an upmarket hotel that is trying to accomodate all guests well, there were many other persons there that were obviously on business, allot of loan people having dinner in the evenings with their books and smartphones. A few couples, not many.

Good overall and not too expensive, would recommend but be prepared for a 30minute drive to Basingstoke if your wanting to get their for 9am each day.

“Charming staff and a very warm welcome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Booked for two nights as we have stayed before.
The gentleman on reception was charming and helpful putting us in Room no 10 which is a lovely room.
A four poster, amazing wardrobe and complete with a Georgian little cupboard and wig powdering alcove. The room was large with the floor on a slight list giving the impression of being at sea but fun.
The bathroom is dated with a sink for midgets but clean, warm and lashings of hot water.
The staff in the resturant were eager to please and helpful and quick.
Dinner was fresh and imaginative at low prices but no quality compromise. My curry was just right and the trio of hot desserts was bliss.
Breakfast was well laid out good choice of a la carte smoked salmon and scrambled delicious, my English only the bacon was not what I liked being a streaky sort of girl. Toast was thick hot and delicious. Staff were jolly and helpful.
Overall the hotel is pleasantly decorated, charmingly staffed and ideal for a short break.

Room Tip: Room 10 is lovely, quirky. Most of the rooms on the 1st floor are large ab Nod comfortable. Ask the...

“Wonderful New Year”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

Just stayed at The Swan in Alton for New Year and had a thoroughly enjoyable time there. The gala night dinner was excellent. Entertained by a jazz band all night long, and they were fantastic. The Swan itself was clean, comfortable and the staff very friendly. Would recommend a stay there anytime. This is my fourth visit - and it never disappoints.
