“Pleasant Stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Stayed at the Crown Inn Hotel, room or mini apartment no:18, for 2 nights on a KGB deal and it was great value for money. The reception staff were friendly enough despite being run off their feet with lots of customers from Groupon and KGB. Had a meal in the restaurant the first night which was very nice but a bit overpriced. Breakfast was fine apart from the cooked breakfast which was disappointingly tasteless; egg half cooked even though we requested them to be flipped, the fried tomatoes were raw and the mushrooms tasted like tinned ones and were soggy. My partner asked for his egg to be redone and we waited a good ten minutes for another one. It was not the waitress at fault but the chef. We were to witness a few problems caused by the chef and the poor waitress taking the brunt of complaints because of the poor kitchen service. The village and surrounding countryside is magnificent and the lack of phone networks is a blessing. If the chef was improved the whole experience would have been perfect.

“Hidden little gem”

Charming Hotel in a village that does not get the attention of its more popular neighbours Chipping Camden and Moreton tin the Marsh few people will know this village.
unlike others we had no problems with the staff at all very efficent on the check in the Gentleman even offered help with the bags. The restaurant was very nicely furnished and staff always checked if we had everything we needed, The Food was good all be it the menu a little limited but was all home prepared, if you look at other eating establishments in the area the Crown is on par with others for price remember you are in the Cotswolds £££££.
Breakfast was fine cereals etc full english what more do you need.
Yes the hotel did seem to be run by a handfull of people but remember this is only a small hotel and not the Hilton Chain or likewise, i think they work really hard to make this hotel a success, we had room 23 in the main building at the top spacious and clean a little tricky gettin up the stairs and mind your head when going to the huge bathroom / dressing room the doors only 5 foot high,
You do need a car to get out and about although there are some lovely walks if you want to abandon the car.I have stayed in places not half a good and payed considerably more but this was a KGB deal and i though was superb value.

Room Tip: As long as you can negotiate tricky stairs room 23

“Something a bit different”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

One hotel, one pub and no mobile phone signal. If you want to get away, literally, from it all, this is the place. An old hotel, with very uneven bedroom floors, in a very quiet village with one pub within walking distance and one shop. Locals are very friendly and some great walks to be done. Hotel is small and staff are friendly. Rooms are clean and food is acceptable. Stayed for two nights with a Groupon deal and it was good value for money.

We booked 2 nights through Groupon, on arrival no information, no welcome just told room number and the room was outside the Hotel opposite reception in a VERY SMALL building. We paid £89 for our deal only to discover that other people had paid £65 for theres with a different website but they had BIG SUITES and in the hotel. First day breakfast was good and cooked while we waited by second day more people had arrived and breakfast was awful all under cooked. most people were leaving it'. My husband was sat by the log fire on the first night only to hear the owner and staff slagging off the Groupon customers and even some of his staff!!! NOT A HOTEL TO RETURN TOO

“A pleasant Cotswold break”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Blockley is a peaceful, characterful village full of olde English, Cotswold charm. It has a grass common in the middle with a nearby general store type shop which boasts its own Post Office three days a week! You will also find a beautiful church "St Peter & St Pauls", and a small pub with a big heart called "The Great Western". The pub has a bar and a restaurant which provide real ales, very good pub food and a well thought out wine menu. The staff are amongst the most friendly and professional we have ever had the pleasure to meet.
The village is not close to any main road, so has the atmosphere of an extremely countrified peaceful oasis, but at the same time is ideally situated for exploring the other Cotswold towns and villages. We found the locals friendly and welcoming, however, if you hope for a good reception for your mobile you will be out of luck.

We stayed at the Crown Inn for 2 nights, 12th & 13th January 2012. It is a very old beautiful building, full of character inside and out. Situated on a peaceful corner of the village, there is ample parking at the rear of the hotel accessed through an arched entrance.

We were shown 2 rooms, room 12 was a good size, room 9 is a very spacious room with a four poster bed. Both had comfortable beds, good bathrooms with very good showers and nice white fluffy towels and complimentary toiletries.

There is a cosy lounge with a real log fire and a plentiful supply of books and games.

It has an attractive and characterful dining area with large arched windows. This room is also used for breakfast which we found to be excellent with a plentiful choice of fruit, cereal, toast and a full English breakfast.

This is a 16th centrury inn so therefore does have some creaks, groans and uneven flooring in some areas, but this is all part of the character.

The two things that could improve the hotel would be; a handyman to attend to the little odd jobs around the place, eg. broken window latches, replacing spent light bulbs and other snagging jobs. The reception staff could definitely benefit from interpersonal customer service training.

Overall we had an enjoyable stay and we would return.
