Stayed for one night at this hotel. Get off the train at Westcliffe, the stop before Southend, and you can walk to the hotel, otherwise it is a £4.50 taxi ride away. The hotel is on a fairly quiet side street, 100 yds away from the prom but a 2 mile walk to the pier. The bar is decent, but generally frequented by single males. The beer is well kept though and reasonable priced for a hotel. The 4 poster room was cheaply furnished, but a decent size, and the bathroom was low-average but had a shower which dripped all night, or needed the arms of Hercules to tighten the stop valve. The 4 poster bed was a bit tacky, with short nets around the top.
One big plus -the staff were excellent, and very friendly. I could find absolutely no fault with any of them, and it felt like a real family hotel because of that.
