“Porn and Paint and Smelly Toilets”

Arrived in the morning. Checked in but no room that early which was not a problem. Used toilet in restaurant which stank. Checked in at 1700...corridoor where room was stank of paint and glue as did bedroom. Switched on TV to find the Playboy Channel pop up. Nice. Then couldn't get rid of it and kept coming up. When scrolling to get to BBC One had to travel through a merry mix of sex sites, good job my children weren't with me. Shame on you.

Many thanks for reviewing our hotel on tripadvisor, feedback is always welcome and helps us improve both product and service.
I'm sorry to read that you didn’t have a very good experience. Firstly I can assure you that I have personally looked in to the issues of your stay and if I may I would like to bring out a few points:

Our toilets are constantly checked and cleaned by our housekeeping/cleaning team.
I apologize if you didn’t find the gents smelling clean and fresh as they are normally.

Unfortunately due to an error from our housekeeping team the television in your room wasn’t checked as per our standard .This is normally done everytime we have a new guest checking in and the first channel you should always get is BBC1. I can assure you that all we have throughout the hotel is Freeview and we do not provide guests with a choice for pay-per-view channels, i.e.: playboy. I can assure you that Freeview in the UK does not give you an option for pornographic channels either.

I know you brought the issue with the channel to the attention of my team in reception and an apology was given as well as the offer for a bottle of wine or some complimentary magazines of your choice which you refused.

I apologize for the paint smell in the corridor. As you can imagine to keep our high standards we do have to constantly make improvements. If this had also been mentioned to us we would’ve gladly offered you another room away from that corridor.

Please do not hesitate to contact me personally next time you’re in Chelmsford and I will take care of your booking requirements for you.

“A canteen with rooms!”

The room was actually quite nice but the restaurant and the staff spoilt it. We had a busy day and got there at 7pm to be told "eat before 7.30 or after 8.30". We were tired so quickly showered and dashed in to the restaurant which only had 12 people eating but could seat about 60! It didn't get busier! I ordered a steak which was served with creamy mushroom sauce, ratatoue and potato skins ! Bizarre! My wife ordered sole which was served with half a pound of crispy deep fried new potatoes, no veg! At breakfast we were told by the waitress "breakfast is free-included today". I asked "are you sure? Is it included?" I was told it was. So when it appeared on my bill I queried it and was told " the waitress hasn't got the authority to say that and she doesn't speak good English!" I was charged for the Continental option but not a good experience. Breakfast was not good quality with baked bacon and and no choice of eggs but the scrambled egg provided was freshly cooked and creamy.
The bed felt like Army surplus stuffed with straw. An expensive alternative to a Premier Inn but not as good value.
Wouldn't stay again. Far better value Hotels in thee area.

Room Tip: Go to another Hotel.

“Nice play for pleasure or business”

Checked in for a weekend to visit some friends in Chelmsford. Car park is through a barrier that does not look like way in. Nice large reception with trendy carpet and furniture. Girl in reception was really nice and let us check in early whilst we explored the town. Good location, 10mins walk into town.
Room was good size, clean, good bed and a bath. Large TV etc and ironing board.
Really I can't fault it for price, ok the biscuits were small flat ones, but thats it.
We didnt try breakfast at 20 quid for 2 people.
Would def stay there again.

“awful service, disgusting attitude of staff. DON'T STAY!”

have stayed at this hotel a number of times when working in the chelmsford area. I have always been aware it is predominantly a business hotel, however I haven't had a problem with this until my last stay. I was treated like a second class citizen at this hotel, my advice is if you want a warm welcome and enjoyable stay look elsewhere. Several of the staff were just plain rude even to the point where they wouldn't speak to me and my colleague. When we asked for the football to be put on the single tv located strangely in the middle of reception they were reluctant to say the least. When i asked for the volume to be turned up slightly as it was inaudible I was told a firm 'no".

The hotels sapori restaurant serves good food at standard prices for an italian restaurant. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very formal though, not really ideal when you just want to chill and have a pint after work. Felt like we were almost looked down on for doing this!

On the plus side the breakfast is also very good with a nice variety of cooked and continental breakfasts. The rooms are also tidy and modern as you'd expect of a 3 star hotel really. I was however left a very angry note from one of the housekeeping staff accusing me of smoking in my room. Being a non smoker i argued this and explained that it was possibly the fact that the smoking area was directly outside my window (reception) with the ashtray attached to the wall by my window. No apology was even offered for this, another example of the disgusting service and general feel of this hotel. I could go on.

I feel this hotel needs to concentrate much more on the treatment of its guests, to me there is a very cold feeling about this place it isn't friendly and welcoming any more. I stay in different hotels from week to week due to work commitments and i can honestly say the service and welcome at this hotel is the worst i've ever come across. I will never be staying at this hotel again.

Many thanks for your feedback on Tripadvisor, based on your comments we can continue to improve our product and service.

We are extremely disappointed with these comments and genuinely believe it does not in any way reflect our standard of service. We have over 1.000 guests each month who are extremely positive about their experiences and praise our staff on their customer service skills.

I must be honest and point out that the reason you will no longer stay at our hotel is because you have been blacklisted.

We did try our best to work with you but I can tell you that no one deserves to be spoken to or treated like the members of staff were treated by yourselves. As the General Manager of the hotel it is my duty to ensure my team’s wellbeing and abusive behaviour and the use of foul language will not be tolerated here at the Atlantic Hotel. My team works hard to ensure guests are well looked after. All requests are dealt with in a pleasant and professional manner.

We have now received a letter of apology from your employer who are fully aware of the issues raised here and that’s very much appreciated by all the team.

Now moving on to the smoking issue: Our hotel is smoke free throughout with allocated smoking areas located outside. We have procedures in place when housekeeping suspects a guest has smoked in the room and a letter advising of our policy and recovery fee is then left in your room.
I apologize on behalf of the team if the procedure was not handled appropriately and we will look into ways to improve if required.

“Great Hotel, Best in Chelmsford!”

Stayed on a saturday night following a party near by. Very easy to find. Hotel is amazing very trendy looking without the massive price! Room was huge and very modern. bathroom very clean. Bottle of water by the bed was a nice touch, not usually seen unless in london! Found the staff helpfull and friendly. Would recommend to anyone and will be staying again very soon!

Room Tip: More a tip. If no rooms avail on Atlantic website try the best western U.S site as thats how i booke...
