Having now read the other reviews, all I can say personally, is our stay was Excellent. Together with another couple, my wife & I stayed at the 'White Hart' for two nights over the New Year period. The Manager, whom I know only as Steve is far the best 'Old English Inn' manager we have met.(and we have stayed at many Old English Inns). Both he & all of his most competent staff were helpful, friendly & very polite. The New year function was great and the meals on both days were hot, high quality & plentiful plus the Breakfast and restaurant service were first class. Yes, the hotel could 'do' with a tidy up in some areas. But you must remember that the main building dates back to the 16th century and has a charming wood burning stove in the main bar, which Steve constantly fuels with large logs.. We did in fact occupy rooms in the modern extension above the car park, which were well decorated with all the expected facilities. Also the housekeeper/chambermaid Elaine kept our rooms immaculatley clean. My only complaint we have is that the rooms in our part of the hotel, were freezing cold most of the time. The manager confirmed that there has been a new heating system fitted and unfortunately at present it has some teething troubles. Mind you it was rather quaint to be greeted by a Polar Bear & 2 Penguins when returning to our rooms. All in all, as I always say regarding Old English Inns, you can't expect 5 star quality at the price paid. The only reason I have not given the White Hart Hotel, Steve, his chef & staff full marks is because of the room temperature, but I feel confident that this will be recified prior to our next stay. I therefore give this hotel a FOUR & A HALF overall rating. Thank you JTM France.
