“TRICKY GOLF COURSES - GOOD STAY”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2011

This is the second time we have been here for a golf break. The hotel is lovely, the staff are friendly, the golf courses are a challenge.

The food is very imaginative and the breakfast is very varied.

My only gripe would be having been charged £2.30 for a cup of tea after my round of golf which I thought was extortion.

Also the pool was unheated during our stay.

Otherwise great.

“Well above par. A relaxing break.”

We booked a 4 night weekday break at Dale Hill as we wanted to visit a number of gardens and historic homes in the area. During the week the hotel is quiet which is what we wanted. We booked, after reading the reviews, by phoning the hotel and were offered the Wine Dine and Stay Free package with an upgrade to a suite overlooking the golf course. For £100 a night we got the suite, breakfast, a la carte three course evening meal (with coffee and home made chocolates) and drinks for the two of us.
The suite was lovely - bedroom, lounge and bathroom. Both bedroom and lounge had patio doors opening onto golf course and there were TVs in both rooms. The bathroom was a good size and had a bath and separate shower.
The staff were excellent. Everyone was so friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The food was delicious. There was a great selection and it was very well presented. The deserts are to die for. The restaurant is on the first floor and overlooks one of the 18th green (there are two courses). The comfortable bar area, on the ground floor, also looks out onto the 18th green, has an outdoor seating area and stocks a local real ale. We are not golfers but we didn't feel out of place and appreciated the great views.
The only negative aspect was the pool, sauna and fitness area, which, as has been mentioned in other reviews, is in need of some refurbishment. This did not bother us at all as we didn't particularly want to use them.
We felt that this welcoming hotel provided excellent value and was exactly what we needed for a relaxing break.

Room Tip: Phone the hotel and ask for the best deal they can give you. These appear to be during the week

“Very nice hotel, definitely built for golfers”

My wife and I stayed 6 days at the Dale Hill hotel and we really enjoyed our stay. The rooms were not built with accommodating couples in mind as there is minimal space for more than a couple of days worth of clothing. But other than that and the fact the the shower stall was unbelievably small (perhaps 2.5' x 2.5') we had no issues at all. The staff were friendly and helpful, our rooms always clean and tidy when we came back from our day out.
Breakfast buffet is standard, not outstanding but has both cooked breakfast and fresh fruit items.
Golf - the members course was quite fun, not seriously hard. The Woosnam course is a links course, though a bit 'tricked up'. Still, golfing is good here.

“Excellent golf”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2011

We stayed at this hotel as part of a golf package arranged directly with the hotel. The golf was excellent as was the standard of food throughout. The dinner was very high standard as was the waiting staff who were very friendly. We upgraded to three golf course view rooms. Our room was on the ground floor and had no view of the course. We had a large bush outside the window instead! We were very disappointed with the leisure facilities. The swimming pool was tatty and extremely noisey from the equipment inside the pool house. The sauna was actually dangerous with nails and screws sitting proud on the seats and walls which were red hot and burnt you as you sat down! The hotel does not look inviting as you approach but the rooms were large and clean once inside. We enjoyed the golf but none of us would return.

“Good for local business stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2011

I stay here occasionally due to work and so most of the time I arrive late afternoon and I'm gone early morning.

I have stayed 2 times so far in Jult 2011 for 1 night each time. I had 2 differing experiences.

FIRST STAY
First time the hotel was fully booked and I arrived fairly late and got stuck in what I call the "cupboard room". It was located downstairs looking at the hotel entrance with a shower I could barely stand in (I am slim and tall woman!!) and the sink was the size of a small dinner plate and I could barely reach the loo. No bath.

Some of my colleagues who stay more often refused to eat at the hotel saying it is very expensive £30 for 3 course, £25 for a nice bottle of wine and so we went to the Cheryy Tree inn 2 minutes down the road. The lager was OK and the food typical fair. But it was nice and fine. Just don't risk the wine.

Breakfast was buffet I guess becasue the were busy. Food was good quality but COLD!

SECOND STAY
The second time the place was empty (Monday night) and I got a 2nd floor large room with a nice view of the the golf course and massive bed . Large bathroom with this time a shower AND bath.

The bar areas outside are nice if you get good weather. We had a nice hour sat out on the balcony with a beer. Had a burcy bonnus of a hot air ballon passing very low over head too!

We went to the Cherry Tree and bing a Monday it was closed. So we had no choice but to eat in the restaurant in the hotel. The food was actually rather nice and the waitress was slightly grumpy. What ruined it was I got stung by a wasp while I was waiting for my starter. Apparently they come through the air con. Well it did pretty much ruin my stay as it was very painful, swelled up and felt pretty crap for it!

At brekfast the food was good and HOT as it was served on a indivdual basis (being quiet not worth putting on a buffet). Agai the wasps were flying around like crazy and all over the toast. As you can imagine I was not particularly impressed!!

What I don't understand is we have special rate as a business who uses this hotel regularly at £65 including b and b. So I think to charge that price for a storage cupboard for a room was abit off. However if you get a large room its worth it. It your a big fella you would have hated it!

They do need to sort the wasp problem as I literally was only sittign there and got stung. Not like I agitated and chased them!

Overall it is a good place to stay if a little pricey. FThis is fine it your business is paying for it though!

Room Tip: Ask for a room over looking the golf course
