“Great Family Break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

Hadn't been on a caravan holiday before and was a bit worried due to some previous reviews and watchdog but had booked the Sun £9.50 deal (with the upgrade) so thought we'd give it a go and use the caravan as a base to visit family in Sussex. We needn't have worried as we had a fantastic time! Was expecting to get a dirty caravan so sent my husband in first to check it and he came out and told me it was like an Ikea showroom! Everything looked new and was spotless. There was plenty of room (even an extra bedroom we didn't need!) and everything we needed including extra duvets. The caravan was very cold (It was October) and so we definitely needed the extra duvets! The bathroom with shower was bigger than expected. Parking was convenient, right outside the caravan. And we had a sea view! Whilst there we visited Camber Sands, Rye, Lewes, Drusillas, Alfriston, Sea Life Centre at Brighton and would recommend all!

Went to the kids entertainment in the evening and my 3 yr old loved it. Agree with the previous reviewer that the character breakfast is great fun for kids. Found that the Spar shop mainly stocked convenience foods and not much fresh food however there is a big tesco nearby. Also the pub on site has a great range of food including healthy options and was good quality. All the staff we met were really helpful and friendly and they provide excellent customer service. There were plenty of facilities - so many that we didn't get chance to try them all out!

Would thoroughly recommend this holiday park especially for family holidays with kids. My husband and I have been converted and we are looking forward to booking again. Over the past few weeks I've really missed the caravan!!

Room Tip: If it's a Sun holiday pay for the upgrade.

“Good long weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

We spent a lovely long weekend at Combe Haven, the last weekend of October. We booked via the Daily Mail promotion so in total for 4 of us including passes etc it came to about £140. Well we had a very good weekend indeed, both children enjoyed themselves which is what it's all about for us. The staff were excellent even though it was right at the end of the season. The site itself was clean and well maintained, the shop still stocked which when we have been to other Havens at the end of the season is not always the case. We were slightly unlucky with our caravan which had obviously been smoked in but thankfully only in the en-suite toilet so it wasn't too bad in the rest of the caravan but that smell does permeate through unfortunately. Obviously this may not be the owners fault (this was one that was let out by Haven for owners) it could have been previous holidaymakers. These holidays are what you make them, it is not 4 star luxury but we certainly enjoyed it. The character breakfast we enjoyed on the last day was excellent, the characters spent a tremendous time with each child, we went away with one very very happy little girl. Thank you all !!!!

“Haven Holidays - Combe Haven - Family Fun”

This Haven site is an ideal base for visiting Hastings and surrounding area, The entertainment available onsite is varied and suitable for all ages. The sports facilities including recently built space bowl outdoor flume.

The catering options include Burger King, Papa John's Pizza and a Mash and Barrell Restaurant.

This site benefits with a Sports Bar in the old entertainment complex at the far end of site ideal if you wish to avoid childrens club. The site was clean and the housekeeping team were installing microwaves in all older caravans. New pillows were delivered during stay to replace the older flat polyester pillows from last season.

The site was clean however parking was hard due to lack of disabled bays by disabled caravans. Toilets clean and tidy in main complex and Spar shop large with plenty of choice - some good special offers but worth visiting local shops easily accessible by bus to save money.

Plenty of good attractions to visit locally and good selection of amusements and restaurants available in Hastings. There is enough to keep a family amused at reasonably cost for up to 2 week stay.

If you are an older guest there is still plenty to offer including sports and OAP discounts.

Room Tip: Worth paying for newer models and highest grade you can afford if you require luxury. Bedroom 2 and...

“Great Park! Friendly Staff and Good food!”

As owners of a caravan at Coombe Haven we would like to agree with the other owners comments, as the ownesr of a lovely Superior caravan which we sublet, I do agree it depends who stays in your caravan, some people respect it some don't! Needless to say we love staying there and love all the park has to offer! If you pay £9.50 you're not going to always get a good deal! We have stayed in many Haven sites and decided to buy here as it had more to offer

So don't let the silly reviews put anyone off, there is lots too do for all ages and there's plenty of things to do in the local area.

Well done Coombe Haven!

“I wouldnt pay full price....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

We stayed at Combe Haven for 4 nights, Monday - Friday in October as part of the £9.50 Sun Holidays offer, 2 adults and 1 child (7years). Upon arrival, we were checked in quickly and given keys to the caravan, which was a "deluxe" model and had been upgraded to a 3 bedroom caravan.

Caravan

The caravan had dirty carpets, badly fitting curtains, broken worktops, but had clean surfaces, glasses, plates etc .... The beds had clean sheets and were made on arrival.

To be honest, it was pretty much as I expected, seeing Watchdog and other reviews, but as we didnt intend to spend much time inside the caravan, it would be OK for us to cope with.

Staying with the caravan, there was alot of mildrew in the bathroom and bedrooms, but following the first night we could see how quickly this could build up, with the weather cold and damp outside and the heating inside causing alot of condensation.

Beds were not comfortable, you could feel the springs.

The Carbon Monoxide detector in the kitchen had no batteries in it and there were 2 spaces on the walls of the caravan where the smoke alarms should have been.

It also smelt musty - maybe nobody stayed in it for a while .. or someone had smoked in there before.

TV was too small with no remote control and it could have done with better heating for the night time, however, it soon warmed up when the fire was on next morning.

Bar and Food

Contrary to some other reviews, we found the Mash and Barrel pub to be excellent .... we thought the food was reasonably priced and was always hot and plentiful .. in fact, we never managed to finish a main course... Starters were from £3.95 and mains averaged around £9.50 (Carvery - all you can eat was £8.95 for Adult and £5.50 for kids) Lager was £3.05 a pint for Carlsberg.....

There were special offers available, such as kids eat free with every adult meal between 12 and 5pm and for the evenings 2 x fish and chips and a bottle of wine was £19.95 ..... TIP = a bottle of Kumala wine was £7.95 (but one glass was £4.50, so be careful).

The entertainment was not the best, but was better than Haven in St. Ives - however, the 7yr old we were with loved it and took part every night with the dancing, magic show, science show and photos with the characters that were on stage .... we never stayed for the late night "live" acts so could not comment.

As well as the Mash and Barrell, there was a Burger King (£7 for a meal) and Papa Johns pizza, but we never ate the junk food.

On site Spar shop was OK for essentials, however, Tesco is 5 mins away and is cheaper.

Pool

The pool was OK, big enough for kids, but not decent to do swimming due to the amount of people in at any one time ... the outside slide was only open specific days and hours due to lifeguard availability.

The changing rooms were clean, except for the crap that other guests left in the changing rooms instead of using bins provided, such as used nappies.

We went out 3 days of the 4 we were there, including Battle, Brighton and into Hastings, but there isnt alot to do in October.

Would i go back ...? - if on another £9.50 offer, but forget it if i had to pay full price (i checked online with Haven and they wanted nearly £900 for the same week ..... not worth that by any means when you can go all inclusive in Spain in October for £600 for the 3 of us.

Room Tip: Look for special offers in the Mash and Barrel for food and drink.... dont just look at the menu.
