“i still smell of nicotine”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2010

We booked the hotel for one night to attend a wedding. we paid £99 B&B for a family room. The bedroom was a reasonable size with one double and two single beds. The location was quiet and about 30mins walk from the centre of Hastings. It is on a hill and so not suitable for walking if you have mobility problems. The decor was very dated and paper was coming off the walls. The windows and fittings in the room were filthy and the furniture dated,. the bathroom was adequate but very dated. The whole room was tired and stuck in the 70's. The biggest problem was that the room stank of nicotine and the walls seemed yellow from it. After one night sleeping there we got home and our nightwear (worn just the once there) smelt like an ashtray. On the positive side the staff were fine and the English breakfast was excellent with fresh strawberries on the table, croissants, toast, cereal and full cooked options.
Overall we were dissappointed with the room decor but as a place just to stay for one night it was reasonable value.

“A good stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2010

Stayed overnight following a friends funeral. My experience was a very nice clean room at the back of the hotel but still with a bit of a sea view. Perfectaly acceptable en-suite with some lovely fluffy towels. A very nice clean and very comfortable bed. An excellent breakfast, which you could say was the 'full monty', strawberries on the table, various ceral's , orange juice, Croisants, a range of differnet options for english breakast from two of everything to just what you want, toast,tea/coffee. I was on the 3rd floor so a few steps. The Inn is also at the top of a bit of a hill but not to difficult. On the basis of my one night would recommend for a day/few days stay.

“Excellent hospitality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 May 2010

Real value for money hotel, breakfast excellent, lovely touch with fresh strawberries and hot croissants, plus cereals, toast and choice of variations on full english, didn't need to eat for rest of day!! Rooms clean but do need a lick of paint, only downside is location, steep hill to promenade not particularly suitable for disabled. A really great break though, Warm welcome awaits!

We have stayed here twice now and both times we have felt happy, Pat and Tony made us feel welcome, the rooms are cosy and the beds are clean and very comfortable. My partner especially loved the home cooked fryups in the morning, we didnt need to eat until late afternoon after the breakfasts!!!!! Pat was very happy to tell us how to get to different places and always very friendly and chatty which is what we love!! We will definately be coming back to the Highland and probably for many years to come. I would highly reccomend this place!!
