“Should have read the reviews!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Very disapointing.Stayed for one night and wouldnt have stayed for second. Not much of a welcome,no offer of showing us to our room etc,the hotel part of the pub feels like its in a seveties time warp, shabby without the "chic".Desperatley needs a makeover.Make sure if you are returning after 11.30 pm that your Sherlock skills are up to finding the rear entrance as the front door will be locked and if the proprietor does here you trying to get in and comes to the otherside of the door,he will just gesture vaguely in the direction your ment to go,so that you can hone your exploring skills for the next 15 minutes! The bed was comfortable and the linen was clean but paying extra for a four poster bed was a waste as it added nothing to the "ambiance"of drab room.We just had cereal for breakfast from the rather dull buffet type offerings as got the impression the owner didnt want to do any more cooking, and from what the other guests were served with,I dont think we missed out on a gastronomic treat.
To top the whole experience off (which is mainly my reason for writing this review) I was double charged, once by the agent we booked threw and again by the hotel.I did querie why I was asked for my credit card on booking in as I had already paid on line, but was told by the proprietor I hadnt. On confronting the agent they were most surprised and as the owner would not return their calls, eventualy they refunded my money.Beware!!!

“self classified 3* hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

we made big 4 mistake booking this hotel ....
1.trying to book a room for a saturday night on saturday morning
2.not double checking that the 'chequers inn hotel' was 'checkers inn' [as in marco pierre whites gorgous looking place]
3.not wondering what a self classified rating was
4.not checking it out on trip advisor !!!

it's a beautiful building in a very pretty village, and the welcome was very warm...BUT the room was well....everything felt uncleaned-neither of us took a step on the floor barefooted and the pillows, although we didn't check by taking the pillow cases off-they felt very old.
breakfast was the real disapointment [remember we still thinking this was owned by marco pierre white!] coffee in a flask, and the continual sound of the micro wave ping-ing.

“terrible place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2011

this hotel has a very bad name locally with all tradesmen, everything is done as cheaply as possible especially when you present a bill and dont get paid, the owner also has a habit of locking the hotel at night before he goes home in his ferrarri and leaving the hotel unattended with no night porter,in fact he has been fined for this, avoid like the plague, all staff is cheap labour and you are lucky if any can string two words of english togeather,

Room Tip: AVOID at all costs and go to the Brambletye opposite

“overnight stay whilst visiting the area.”

Stayed at premises whilst on a visit to the area, self plus wife and eldest daughter with her husband. We asked for and got two rooms with easy access because we needed to take some special equipment. Rooms were neat and tidy and beds comfortable for an overnight stay.
Staff friendly and helpful.
Noted other comments about credit card problems and will keep a check on my account.
