“Beautiful!”

My family and I stayed in this hotel for the weekend as we were visiting southwold to go to the 'Latitude' festival. When we arrived, the helpful lady showed us to our room. I was pleasantly surprised to find a large, light, clean two floored room. My parents slept in the large room upstairs, with a king sized bed, T.V, bath and tea and hot chocolate.........
My sister and I shared a double sofa bed in the downstairs lounge/t.v area. The room was light, clean and spacious.
We also had a bathroom equipped with a walk in shower, bath salts and goodies, loo, sink and fluffy white towls and robes. Once we had changed into smarter clothes, and had unpacked, we went to and sat outside in the beautiful 'fairytale' like garden surrounded by fairy lights. Then, we were shown to our table by kind, friendly staff. Our meal was delightful! Then, once we had finished, we retired of to bed...........

Room Tip: Our room was near the restaurant and bar; don't be put off as we could not hear any noise comin...

“Good country pub hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Good newly refurbished rooms in outbuildings, with clean modern bathrooms. Comfortable beds. Stayed midweek in winter and so hotel was quiet. Common areas are comfortable, with a country pub feel, and lots of log fires. Food was good - dinner was good gastropub standard; good full breakfast.

“Dog Friendly Weekend Escape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

We’ve been to this coast before, so know the area well. Not much in the village beyond the Hotel. That’s not a problem as we used it as a base for nearby Southwold and Aldeburgh. Also just a five-minute drive away is Dunwich Beach/Marsh, beautiful, miles of walks through the nature reserve, decent tearoom at the visitor centre too!

This time we wanted to take our little dog, it’s usually so difficult to find a decent place, which caters for our four-legged friend! Struck gold here, Jasper was welcomed with a lot of fuss by all staff and welcomed in all areas except the restaurant (fair enough). The bar was very cosy, roaring fire, whilst the lounge(s) always had room to settle down with the paper or play one of the many board games. Reception even has a whole range of suggested walks you can do. As for the room, it was set up with a dog bed, bowls and treats already laid out for him, perfect.

We had a family suite that suited well. Very modern, immaculate and stylishly appointed. We dined at the restaurant both nights, far better than usual hotel fair. In fact seemed as though a lot of diners actually came just for the meal and were not guests, always a good sign. More of a restaurant with rooms than a hotel. Breakfasts were equally excellent, especially the local kippers.

Service throughout from the young staff was attentive, friendly and efficient - even beyond our stay. We got a call after a few days saying they had found Jaspers’ dog tag in the car park, which was duly posted to us, thank you.

All in all, with or without dogs a top-level base for this area. We’ll be back.

“terrible nights sleep”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

stayed in what was the best room for 135.00 did not get a wink of sleep due a noisy fan in the staff room toilet which caused noise in the bedroom above - the one i was in - eventually called night porter after midnight who turned it off a common problem he said only for it to start in the dark early hours. Unhelpful and disinterested receptionist the next morning Be aware if you stay in Plover Room.

It is such a shame to read this review as I remember speaking with your during dinner, and discussing how good your stay had been. I am really sorry that this fan, which has since been replaced, kept you awake- not the experience we aim to give to any of our guests when staying away at a hotel.

“A Great Midweek break - Couldnt Fault it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

Just Spent three nights (on the three nights for price of two deal ) midweek at this country Inn/hotel . In every respect it was excellent value and a good experience. The staff throughout were polite, friendly, and helpful. From the initial phone call to book ,through arrival & checking in ,then during the stay and on departure everyone really made you feel very welcome . Pleasant bar area, comfy lounges and nice dining room(s) .
We are always a bit wary of just how "dog friendly " a hotel is because our Boxer can be a bit boisterous but this place and all the staff we encountered could not have done more for his (or our needs). A pet blanket and water dish in the bedroom and sausages for his breakfast! And he was allowed to sit with us in the bar whilst we ate and the barman even brought him a dog biscuit .
We were upgraded to a "Best" room on the ground floor in the converted cottages and though fronting the street didn't hear any traffic noise. Everything about the quality and standard of the bedroom, the complimentary accessories (bathrobes/homemade biscuits etc) and the good sized en-suite was very good. Lots of space for us (and the dog) and a decent sized wardrobe and a, very comfortable big king sized bed. The en-suite had a roll top bath and big walk-in shower . Everything spotlessly clean and nice decor. Had a sneaky peek at examples of the other types of room available and as indicated in other reviews they are also of very good standard.
We have over recent years experienced all sorts of breakfast(s) offered at a variety of accommodation from two room B & Bs to 5 Star Hotels and can honestly say the cooked breakfast here compared favorably with the best of any of them . Lunch and Evening meals whether taken in the bar or the dining room were also good quality, prompt service and nice menu options available . Prices appeared broadly in line with other establishments in the area and we thought the portion sizes were fine.
The hotel is well situated to visit all the popular places and attractions in that part of Suffolk and the village and surrounding countryside are delightful.
We really enjoyed our stay and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone visiting that area.
We shall certainly be returning (the dog has already made his next booking)

Room Tip: The mid week "offers" are really good value.
