Lovely building with character, built 450 years ago - which was probably when our mattress was also supplied, Room 2 is a good sized room, great views, spoilt by the small four poster bed with a mattress that had collapsed width ways and length ways ! Tired bathroom with a shower that doesnt drain.
Good food in the restaurant, and the 2 staff on duty worked very hard.

We booked this hotel for their 2 day new year package which sounded such good value that we expected there to be a catch. Far from it, we had a fabulous time and couldn't have been better looked after. Food was great, accomodation was clean and full of character and the staff were warm and friendly. The food was delicious too, what more can I say other than I will be booking for next New Year!

I was with a party of 20 for the New Year Break and this turned out to be absolutely brilliant. There were a few instances of imperfection ie the bar was flooded on both evenings (not the fault of the hotel) but as we all stayed in the restaurant after the meal each night for the entertainment, it did not matter, also it appears that the hotel has only one 4- slice very slow toaster so there was an extremely long wait for much needed toast each morning to have with our cooked breakfast, but as we were in a large group of friends and thoroughly enjoying our break together it did not really matter, the food was excellent at all times. The hotel was clean although the decor was a bit "tired" our room was large with windows on two sides, the bed was very comfy and bathroom fittings were antique but adequate, The room was very warm so much so we turned off the heating and opened the windows! But considering the age of the hotel, it was a wonderful place. The DJ on New Years Eve is to be commended, he absolutely made the evening into one to remember! The gardens and grounds are amazing, even in
winter. A memorable stay.

We stayed at the Cornwallis for the xmas period- we went on the 24th and stayed 3 nights on the xmas package.
The hotel is warm (possibly too warm!) and cosy. Our room was very nice, a 4 poster double and spacious with a good tv. However the bathroom was in need of a good paint and refurb-the bath and shower in particular needed a refit. The rest of the hotel is tidy and clean, and classically decorated but could use a lick of paint.
All meals were included except boxing day lunch and the package was really good value. We enjoyed cream tea on arrival, 3 course dinner on 24th and 26th, 4 course xmas lunch, a lovely cold buffet on xmas day and a hot buffet breakfast each day.
The staff were all very friendly and there were nice touches- a xmas stocking each with treats-chocs, fruit and a branded whisky glass! There were xmas crackers each day too.
There was entertainment of sorts-a quiz and board games on one night, and a singer on the last night.
I'd say this is a good hotel for a relaxing break-don't expect to be amazed with entertainment. Also, if you are under 50 expect to be the youngest visitors by a LONG shot!
