we ate in the restuarant after being recommended by friends we wasn't disappointed with the food it was lovely, the staff were lovely but rushed off there feet so the actual service was a little slow. we didn't mind the slow service as we wasn't in a rush though i am sure this isn't how it is always run. I would highly recommend anyone to go to The Lawns for a good meal at reasonable prices

Our first visit to Holt was thoroughly enjoyable. We loved all the small independent shops and enjoyed great evening meals at Balthazaars and Byfords. The hotel was very nice and inviting. Breakfast was delicious and a great variety on offer. The room (number 8 I think) was comfortable and had an enormous bathroom. The only two gripes we had were 1) the shower was in the bath with no screen or curtain. With a bathroom this big it would have been better to install a separate shower. On our first morning, the water in the shower went hot, then cold, then off completely but it was Ok on the second morning even though you had to sit in the bath and hold the shower head over you! 2) the toilet didn't flush properly. When we reported this, the owner knew about it and had done a temporary repair whilst waiting for a part to arrive. Overall, it was a lovely weekend and it was a treat for my birthday so I didn't know the cost. From reading another review, if it was £95 per night I think it is a bit overpriced personally.

We stayed for a night at the Lawns recently and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were unable to give the menu a full test as we were not that hungry. I had a starter of figs with Rockfort and rocket which was very good and my partner had the liver, which I felt was a little overcooked (they did not ask how he wanted it cooking).
Our room was large, with big windows overlooking the garden, very comfortable and clean. The breakfast was excellent, much better than the one you get at Byfords.
The owners were present all the time overseeing things, which is always a goood sign. We would certainly stay there again.

WE stayed here again during the wonderful annual Holt Festival and found the Lawns even better than last year. There is ample parking when you arrive, a warm welcome when you check in at the bar and the hotel is right in the centre of this pretty Georgian town - everywhere is within walking distance. Our room was large and comfortable and the bathroom had everything we needed. Only slight quibble was the bed which was a small double and seemed to bounce whenever one of us moved! We had comfortable chairs to sit in and lots of channels on the TV - you can also borrow DVDs and books from the hotel. Breakfast was large and delicious with several choices of 'main course'.
One extra thing: we had been warned that our room might be noisy since there was a Festival music venue just below our window but in the end it was a plus since we listened to the (very good) band practice earlier from the comfort of our room and the proprietress ensured that no-one lingered there after the concert to make a noise. That was a real service!

We didn't try the restaurant but they kindly made up sandwiches for us at eleven p.m.
