“Wonderfully full of character!!!”

I was not going to leave a review about this hotel, but thought after reading some previous ones that I needed to at the least defend the Scole Inn!! I stayed at the scole inn with my husband not so long ago and I have to say that I loved every minute of it! The staff were so welcoming and friendly and the food was well priced and very full of flavour. I am sad to see that some people cannot appreciate the age of the building and of the rooms, why go and stay at a 16th century coaching inn if you are expecting all new mod cons??? We stayed in room 10 which is located inside the main building, and I have to say that I have never felt so at home in a hotel before. The room had a four poster bed which possibly could have done with a new mattress but none the less was full of character and a lovely/different experience. The bar downstairs had lovely old features which include a very impressive fire place and has a sort of relax and put your feet up feel. I personally feel that people should give the Scole Inn a chance and when you are staying there, keep an open mind and appreciate the age and history of the place. The prices of the rooms to stay there are unbeatable and include breakfast (which surprised me) so even if there are a few hiccups here and there I do not think that people really have the right to complain about such trivial matters, it is almost as if people are expecting a 5 star hotel for budget prices. The Scole Inn would look amazing if some money was put into redecorating and maybe some new but suitable furniture but myself and my husband both agreed that in this day and age it is hard to constantly keep things perfect (recession). Overall I loved the staff, the rooms and the building and couldn't have asked for more. Highly recommend for people looking for a lovely, cosy and affordable experience.

Room Tip: We personally loved room 10!!

“Tired but very welcoming.”

Looking at many of the reviews,I gave the place a chance.
Yes the place is a little tired but the character is there to be seen and the staff are working very hard to be friendly and helpful.
The food altho a slightly limited menu is excellent and very enjoyable, The fact I could enjoy my meal in front of a roaring wood fire just made my night and I went for a very comfortable nights sleep.
All in all I think people should give the place a chance and make some allowances for a very old lady of a building.

Room Tip: Try to get a feature room as the features are just 16th century beauty

“AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!”

My partner arranged a surprise weekend away for my 40th birthday and i sincerely wish she had saved the money for a night out down the local takeaway!
After booking in on Friday evening and being shown to a dirty smelly room in the main hotel, we both ate chicken and chips in the bar area. Within the hour we both realised it was the worst choice we could have made as we rushed to the toilet.
We had planned to stay on the Saturday but after a horrible night in this shambles of a hotel we decided to leave first thing on Saturday morning.
We tried to discuss our dissatisfaction with the manager zoe? (she REFUSED to give her name) and her attitude was absolutely appalling. She swore at us and told us we would have to pay for the two nights stay or she would take the money off our credit cards. We did not know our legal right and felt it best to pay up and get away from the place.
Please take our advice and STAY AWAY from this tip if you want to keep healthy and not spend your Friday night in the toilet...

Room Tip: Sleep in your car as it is cheaper and cleaner and you can always stop off at a drive through where...

“So Sad !”

Calling in at the Scole Inn recently I was disappointed beyond words at the what we experienced . No one at the bar , one girl at reception but on her mobile - the whole place lacked atmosphere which is hardly surprsing given the lack of customer care. Years ago it was THE pace to be but now ..................So sad !

“Stay Away”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

The hotel was booked for me by our business travel company, upon driving up to the Scole Inn, it looks spectacular, this is where it stops. As a business visit, i needed wi-fi, which it says it has. Upon arriving i asked if it had wi-fi and was told no, the receptionist told me that breakfast was held in the restaurant, i then asked what time it opened in the evening, only to be told it was not open and that food was only served in the bar. I was told that my room was out in the annex Room 23, and to go through the arch, well it took me a good 10 mins to find my room as it was not lit had no indication where it was. The room was well not good, the carpets where filthy and stained, the bed was like sleeping on a lump of concrete and the décor was out of the 16th century. Break fast the next morning was no better, you expect to get local produce, however the fried egg was hard, the bacon and sausage were basic "Walls type" produce. In all one of the worst places i have stayed in.
