“Disappointing”

The good part about this hotel? The lovely facade, especially illuminated by night. The letdown? - everything else! The rooms are functional but characterless - don't think that you are getting any of the charm of the original building in the bedrooms. Our room was grubby - a plastic clothes tag on the floor (in the middle of the room) when we arrived was still there two days later. The bathroom was, frankly, grimy. As for the breakfast - well, I can only think that the kitchen manager (I can't bring myself to say, 'chef') has been planted by a rival hotel to bring down the business - or that s/he has been so worn down by economy that s/he's given up. The breakfast (at £15 per head) was a disgrace. More like a bucketshop package holiday than a luxury weekend. The only compliment I can pay is to the nice porter who helped with the keycard failures and the malfunctioning kettle.

“relaxing break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

this hotel is just wonderful, we love staying here. I could not fault it, the rooms are gorgeous, very comfy beds, lovely bathroom. the restaurant has fantastic helpful staff, the food is exellent, your waiter will unfold your napkin for you! The hotel has a lovely warm pool and sauna and jaccuzi. Have a wander round the building, the staff wont mind, the place is steeped in history, go up the old staircase to the old library. Redworth is also very close to the lovely market town of Durham.

Room Tip: just ask if they have a good room vacant, we always do and have always got a nice room, the staff ar...

“Aaaaaah!”

A lovely stay, the hotel is beautiful, the staff are attentive and the spa is very handy. The food is wonderful and you have lots of intersting options rather than just the tired old meals you see again and again. If you like old buildings with a bit of charater its perfect but corridor noise does tend to come through to your room a bit. Only problem for me was the scones for the afternoon tea were too dry perhaps as a result of already being cut and I prefer to cut my own. Breakfast was perfect with a great deal of choice.

“Beautiful from the outside”

Booked a spa room for valentines day. We arrived early and it was ready, check in was quick and easy. Room was in newer part of the hotel which we were pleased with as the old part of the hotel was cold and drafty in places. Room was small but clean. Lovely spa bath and jet shower although we had trouble trying to figure out how to get the jets all working. After a phone call to reception we got it half working and made do. Couldnt fault our room. We tried to use the spa but it was very busy and the pool cold. It has a jacuzzi, sauna and steam room which were all nice but packed. Gave up in the end and returned to our room as it wasnt very relaxing by the pool. Had afternoon tea in the bar area which is very small for such a large hotel. It was £25 for both of us and to be honest found it sadly very dry, asked for butter for the scones which was brough straight away. We ate in the restaurant which we enjoyed, we had finished our starter before our drinks arrived, waitress kept apologising for delays as they were busy. Surley if you know your restaurants full you have enough staff to cover? Breakfast the next morning was very disappointing. The fried eggs were swimming in grease and the scramble eggs were very watery, the tomatoes well over cooked and the bacon freezing cold. There was a long line of people waiting for food to be replemished. Overall a nice weekend but the food let it down alittle. We would return again, maybe have a sandwich for lunch and hope the breakfast was better next time.

“Weekend at Redworth Hall”

This was the second time I had visited Redworth. The rooms are very comfortable and clean with a range of toiletries and bottled water. The staff are exceptional and go out of their way to help and make your time with them comfortable and enjoyable. I will be visiting again.

Room Tip: The Spa rooms are very comfortable and have both a bath and separate shower
