“ideal for a relaxing holiday”

we have just returned from a week's all inclusive holiday at the Oceanis and were not disappointed. The Oceanis is located on a hill top with sea views and surrounding area away from all the hustle and bustle, however only a fifteen minute walk down the slope to the pretty beaches , bars and shops.
The Restaurant caters for local and international cuisine and the staff are friendly and helpful, especially Stefan who also had a sense of humour. The food is plentiful and there was as abundance of different fruit which was delicious.
Our rooms were clean and the bed sheets and towels were changed daily. If you are looking for evening entertainment then the Oceanis is not for you as there is no entertainment, however it was not necessary as it was extremely pleasant to socialise with other guests around the pool bar in the evenings and just chilling. It made a welcome change.
We would like to thank the lovely Tula from reception for always having the time to speak to us and asdvising us of places to visit and also Michele who worked in the evenings and spoke fluent Italian , his knowledge of the area was immense and he too also found the time for us.
From the pool bar i would like to thank the lovely Georgia, she was always polite and always served us with a smile.
My husband and I had needed a relaxing holiday and that is exactly what we got , we will be going back to the Oceanis but for two weeks next time, not one.

Have just returned from a weeks holiday at the OCEANIS I had also read the reviews and was worried but need not of been. I went with my two daughters , my youngest daughter spent nearly her entire holiday in the pool which was always kept clean. The staff where always friendly especially the barman his cocktails where especially strong. The food was good not excellent but we are all fussy eaters but still managed to fill our plates each evening and the waiters where always friendly and there to help. The rooms were alwasy kept clean with clean towels and bins emptied each day, yes the beds were hard and only one pillow but we asked the cleaning lady for more pillows and they were there the next day. The walk to the beach was hard work but think of the exercise and the tan you get on the way. The holiday rep had various trips to go on we went to water city which was a great day but more for kids, if you walk down to the beach there are various boat trips you can book which work out cheaper. We were lucky the week that we went their were some very nice people english , german , italian , polish and we all just mixed together and we made are own entertainment in the evening as there was none supplied by the hotel that was really the only down side to this holiday. Would we go back again YES

“What a fantastic holiday!”

My partner and I stayed at this hotel between 20th and 27th August 2010. We, like many others, had read the reviews on here about the hotel before leaving, but decided to see for ourselves what it was like - what a good decision we made!

The hotel was lovely. A very small hotel, no more than around 100 rooms. The hotel was very clean. Our bed was made everyday by the maid (she even tidied up for us), clean towels were provided as was clean bedding (not enough pillows though, but we were given more on request). The room was small, but suitable for two adults and had everything needed, including balconies for every room.

The grounds of the hotel were gorgeous, with pretty, colorful flowers and olive trees located all around. The pool was always kept clean as were the areas to lounge and bar.

Being a VERY fussy eater, I managed to eat everyday, which my partner was amazed at. There wasn't a huge selection on offer but what was there was well cooked and tasted amazing! You have to remember you are traveling to Crete, so DO NOT expect to see a British menu - chips were not on the menu everyday - hoorah! There was a limited choice of alcohol, so if they don't provide what you want, buy some at the local shop and take some out with you each night - it is very cheap!

The staff can appear to be rude, but English is not their first language and for some not their second language either. If you make the effort with them, the ones who have good English will truly make the effort with you, as will the other staff with little English. The staff were always polite, even to the people who had nothing else to do but complain because the hotel wasn't up to THEIR standard! (I have to say at this point the most rudest, arrogant people there were some of the other British guests, who were vile to the staff and the rep, Jimmy - for shame on them!) The receptionist, Tula was great, very helpful and always willing to offer advice and information when ever she was asked. Harris, one of the receptionists seemed to be rude, but his English is very limited - we made it our task to make him smile which he did on many occasions with persuasion!

The hotel is situated about a 10 minute walk to the beach down a gradual slope. It takes about 15 - 20 minutes to walk back, so take or buy some water. The beach was a little disappointing because there was a strong current which meant the beach often had a red flag up.

The hotel runs a free bus to the local town Monday - Saturday twice daily. At Hersonissos you will find many shops, pubs and beach areas you can swim in. Many of the shops have areas sitting over the sea which was amazing! If you venture to Hersonsissos, BE AWARE of Aegean Blue agents who offer you a scratch card and you are then a lucky winner. They are a time share company and we were very gullible and initially fell for the con - but we wised up very quickly! Be warned!!!!

Would we recommend this hotel to others? Absolutely!!! We would definitely consider a return there in the future!

“Don't read too much into other reviews! If you do read any, then read this!!”

We have just arrived back home from a week all inclusive at the Oceanis Hotel. We booked the holiday and hotel first and then read the reviews which you are doing now; they did not look good and made us feel apprehensive about going but there all total rubbish. Every review commented on the staff, MOST of them were really nice and friendly apart from 2. Don’t get me wrong they won’t bend over backwards for you but are helpful and friendly as long as you are to them. The hotel itself is in a quiet location up a hillside and the beach is a 5 minute walk down. The hotel was very clean and tidy every minute of the day, the maids would give you fresh towels and bed sheets everyday and also clean the floors in the room every time they were in. The pool was always clean and a great place to get a tan. The restaurant was nothing like the reviews I had read before going. The food was of a high standard and lots to choose from every day, but remember it is a buffet style, so don’t think it’s a la carte. Even the fussy eaters will like what’s available! The pool bar was busy on a night with music playing; it was not a lively bar but a place where you can go to relax after your evening meal. If you are looking for ‘nightlife’ then there is not much going on in and around the hotel such as other bars and clubs although if you walk down to the beach there is a number of quiet bars serving great food and cheap drink. Hersonissos town centre where all the big late bars and clubs is only €8 away in a taxi, so once you have your evening meal and stayed at the pool bar until the free drinks stop being served at 11pm you can get the reception to book a taxi for you and enjoy. The centre itself is full of bars, restaurants and clubs. Go early evening for a nice meal over looking the sea which really is worth it. The centre doesn’t get busy with people out for the bars and clubs until about 10:30 but we got a taxi at 11 and it was really lively and lots going on with no trouble and everyone enjoying themselves, the bars and clubs are open till 3-4ish so
Overall I thought the place was really nice and was a great holiday and would recommend it to anyone. So if you do get put off by the other reviews then don’t take much notice of them as we didn’t and go there to enjoy it and you will.

“poor all inclusive package”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2010

My wife, my 16 year old daughter and myself have just returned from a 2 week stay at this hotel, and to be honest, not impressed. I must say though that the room, although very basic, was clean, as was the whole hotel. The food hall is small and didnt have air con, and your packed in like sardines when it s full, so eating your food was uncomfortable. You will find something to eat, but its pretty much all the same thing but just in different sauces. Desserts consist of maybe 2 types of cakes and melon, melon or melon! I think we were the only brits there at the time of our stay, not that that bothered us, but the arrogant russian guests didnt stop staring and were openly talking about you in their language, it was only when my daughter who had had enough of it confronted them, then they would look away. As the title says, the all inclusive package was poor. They were charging 7 euros a day for the remote control air-con, 10 euros a week for the fridge. There are no sun unbrellas at the pool, even these were charged for by the day, and you have to rely on the trees for shade. For me, these are definately 3 things that should be included in an all inclusve holiday, they always have been on previous holidays, especially when the tempretures are reaching 35-40 degrees!
The in-between meal snacks that are put out were unedible, and consisted of stale bread rolls and coissants from breakfast. The drinks included in the AI are; local watered down lager, raki, ouzo, rose and white wine, if you like a nice glass of wine then this isnt for you, and something that was supposed to resemble brandy and thats it! anything else is once again charged for. I know you wont get top brands in the in an AI package, but there wasnt even any local brands.
The hotel is a 20 minute walk from the beach and a 10 minute taxi ride fron Hersonissos Town, that shouldnt cost you anymore than 8 euros, although 8 euros seems to be the magic number, because when we had a taxi in the evening to the beach area, where we were eating, it was 8 euros there too, although it was a 2 minute ride! We loved the beach area and ended up using the hotel only for somewhere to sleep, as we went to the beach 12 days out of our 14 day stay. we loved crete, the food and the people, and if we visit again, would probably go self catering in the beach area.
We booked this hotel 2 weeks before we came, and in reflection, wish we saved the money and gone somewhere else.
