“REALLY, REALLY LOVELY”

Not far from the airport. Very friendly reception staff, were shown to our superior room, overlooking the pool. The room was spotless, very comfortable bed, very good choice for breakfast. We didn't eat dinner. Short walk to the beach and a number of bars and restaurants. On our final day I wasn't very well and our flight wasn't until very late at night, but the very kind staff let us stay in our room until we were ready to leave, at no extra cost. It was probably because it was coming to the end of the season, but nevertheless, it was a nice touch and much appreciated. All in all, a lovely family run hotel.

“Glad we chose Albatros”

Recently spent 2 weeks having chosen the Albatros following reviews from TA. We actually chose the hotel before the resort. The reports on here were accurate and we booked a superior room that was overlooking the pool. I believe these rooms are what i would expect from a good 4 star, was nice to have a safe for no extra charge and the supply of robes and slippers was nice touch. Rooms are serviced every day and condition of towels, sheets etc is excellent. Cleaners are out servicing the pool area every morning by 7am and the pool is cleaned overnight every night. The food was very good for buffet, not the best I have had but in general no complaints with a good variety. And for those who complain they do not cater for the English, remember, you aren't in England, expand your esperiences and try different types. I can imagine the buffet area is a nightmare in high season though due to the confined space. We ate most nights in the 'upstairs' area indoors. If you got a table by the window you had a nice view and a lovely cooling breeze. It also felt more like eating in a restaurant rather than the 'canteen' feel of downstairs. The hotel is in a great location with a short walk to the beach and away from 'madhouse' of beach road. There are a few small bars and shops. I agree that the people are very welcoming and friendly but the bars on beach road employ people to almost 'drag' you into their bar. You get stopped every two paces and if you manage to get past they even chase after you. After a while this got vary wearing and is without doubt an harassment. In the end we walked up from the hotel across the top road rather than beach road to avoid them. My tip if you wish to avoid these bars (and lap dancing bars) is to do the same. Use the bars on the quiet road from the harbour back to the hotal. Two places I would recommend on beach road is the Samba Cafe, Manos who worked there does not hassle you to come in and has a great sense of humour. The restaurant next to the Samba was also good food and you can dine below on a plinth right opposite the water. Back to the hotel, I would highly commend Marina who worked in the top dining area, she really does understand customer service and helped us learn a few greek words. Andy at breakfast was pleasant and smiling. If you get good deal for car hire (We had a class C car for 2 days for 75 Euro) then go to Plaka and get the boat over to the Spinalonga, drive through and visit Elounda, Agios Nicholas is nice to walk around and lunch by the 'lake', Knossos Palace well worth a visit and drive up to villages like myrtia or on the coast such as Sissi. In closing if you wish to go to Hersonnisos you could do much worse than the Albatros, we would use the hotel again but due to the hassling by bars and the rsort being too much like 'Blackpool in the sun there aer nicer resorts to stay such as Sissi and Elounda, having said that it depends on choice and what you wish to have. Very enjoyable holiday.

Room Tip: From what I saw I would avoid room above pool bar, I could hear them emptying their bins at 7am when...

“Happy Happy Happy”

First time in Hersonissos, and after extensive checks went for the Albatros Spa Hotel, I wasn't disappointed. The superior room I booked (with sea view) was five star and very spacious, bath robes, slippers etc all there.
The room ticked all the right boxes and was very comfortable, the buffet was also fine with goog service - definately enjoy an evening meal at the Daphne a la carte especially on themed nights. Lobster night a must for an extra 20€ pp, we had a Brazilian night with lovely costumed ladies, a Greek night with fabulous mainland and Cretan dancing. This all costs money for good entertainment so well done Albatros!
The pool area was great, not overcrowded and totally relaxing, nip down the stairs to the hotels AGORA supermarket with six ice cold beers for 3.6 €. Towels from the spa, leave a deposit, pick it up when you return the towels - simple!
Lots to do around the hotel on the sea front, large beers going begging for 2 €, lunches or evening meals in the retaurants inexpensive and very good quality. I must applaud the attitude of the local people in general, they were so nice EVERYWHERE really, always giving Raki and fresh fruit free after a meal, one place, The Roof Top restaurant almost gave us more than we paid for -great hospitality.
A vist to Agios Nikolaos is a must with lunch at the Lagoon, go to the right side which is the way out to the bus station. a few restaurants by the waters edge look straight out of a film set. Bus is 8.20 € each way pp.( We did the ruins at Knossos last year)
All in all, my wife and I had a truly memorable and enjoyable holiday and I will definately return next year.
Well done to the Albatros hotel and all the happy helpful smiling staff.
PS change your GBP at the Chania Bank near the hotel, best rate above all including the rates in the UK.

Room Tip: Ensure you book a superior room with either pool or sea view.

“Quiet hotel in a very touristic village”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

Normally I would not go to Cherchonissos, but I had to go there for work. Cherchonissos is a very busy and touristic village. I stayed in the Albatros hotel and that was a good decision. It is a quiet and comfortable hotel, with friendly staff. I had a room in the old, not renovated part of the hotel, with balcony and a glimp of the see.
The breakfast was fine and they offer many services in the hotel. One remark: they don't provide free wireless internet (you had to pay for it). I think that this service should be included in the price.

Room Tip: The superior rooms in the new building are better than the basic rooms.

Package booked thru' Olympic Holidays.
Billeted in the old part of the hotel which could benefit from refurbishment.
Quality of the food left a lot to be desired, but the dining room staff (mostly from Eastern Europe )more than compensated for any misgivings.
Great staff wonderful short break
Beware the local bus service, it runs for the drivers benefit not the fare paying public.

Room Tip: For a short break, the standard room is acceptable, any longer, upgrade to superior
