I got to know about Tropical Forest from a friend's friend when I going thru the available options of resorts/ home stays, for a trip to Wayanad. I wasn't sure on what to expect, but the pictures in the site looked promising and the initial responses of Suhail (the owner of the place) over phone sounded cordial.
I booked my stay with couple of things in mind:
I loathe being among a lot of people in my travel trips, so I wanted to book a separate cottage only for my family, wanted a secluded and serene place w/t compromising on security as I was travelling with family. I also wanted someone who could guide me in choosing the visiting places w/t being commercial and trying to sell resort sponsored arrangements. And I wasn't really interested in massage or a lavish swimming pool or spa etc, we get that in the city anyhow, for me and my family staying midst the nature is important. I found all that i was looking for and more.
The stuff of the place were extremely jovial, homely and never said no to our late night or odd time food orders or any small thing that we asked for. The food was more of homemade, was of type Veg and non veg both and had a flavor of Kerala.
The location of the place is such that you can spend a lot of time exploring the estate not to mention the beautiful sunrise point inside the estate itself. There are couple of cottages inside the estate, they are not adjacent to each other and are spread across a huge area which helps keep the natural charm.
There is a driver's accommodation available and that's pretty good.
I cant remember anything that me or my family didn't like actually. Be ready to withstand the attack of leeches if you are visiting in rainy season (or late monsoon time), but that's too small a price to pay if you plan to stay in a natural environment. The cottages need a little more maintenance but I guess rain plays a spoilsport in that front.
And a personal thanks to Suhail for making the stay so memorable.
If I am to recommend a place to stay in Wayand, I wouldn't go anywhere beyond this place.
