“Wonderful Home Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

Tropical Forrest is a beautiful Home Stay in Wyanad situated at Lakkidi. We stayed 2nights/3days and had a wonderful time. Right from booking to our stay the owner Suhail has been very helpful. The Manager Saji and Cook Rafeeq were great guys and helpful and hospitable. Saji gave us the whole 2 roomed Villa for us (3 persons) and we totally enjoyed our stay. It is a great place, very neat and picturesque. Even the cab Driver Shamir who was with us throughout our stay and sightseeing assisted us in every possible way. Wyanad is a wonderful place and some of the places you should not miss visiting are Banasura dam (largest earth dam in Asia), Pazhassi tousist resort and Soochipara waterfall. Hats of to the team for maintaining a wonderful place.

Room Tip: Two room Villa for small family

“a pleasant stay in a great place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

I got to know about Tropical Forest from a friend's friend when I going thru the available options of resorts/ home stays, for a trip to Wayanad. I wasn't sure on what to expect, but the pictures in the site looked promising and the initial responses of Suhail (the owner of the place) over phone sounded cordial.
I booked my stay with couple of things in mind:
I loathe being among a lot of people in my travel trips, so I wanted to book a separate cottage only for my family, wanted a secluded and serene place w/t compromising on security as I was travelling with family. I also wanted someone who could guide me in choosing the visiting places w/t being commercial and trying to sell resort sponsored arrangements. And I wasn't really interested in massage or a lavish swimming pool or spa etc, we get that in the city anyhow, for me and my family staying midst the nature is important. I found all that i was looking for and more.
The stuff of the place were extremely jovial, homely and never said no to our late night or odd time food orders or any small thing that we asked for. The food was more of homemade, was of type Veg and non veg both and had a flavor of Kerala.
The location of the place is such that you can spend a lot of time exploring the estate not to mention the beautiful sunrise point inside the estate itself. There are couple of cottages inside the estate, they are not adjacent to each other and are spread across a huge area which helps keep the natural charm.
There is a driver's accommodation available and that's pretty good.
I cant remember anything that me or my family didn't like actually. Be ready to withstand the attack of leeches if you are visiting in rainy season (or late monsoon time), but that's too small a price to pay if you plan to stay in a natural environment. The cottages need a little more maintenance but I guess rain plays a spoilsport in that front.
And a personal thanks to Suhail for making the stay so memorable.

If I am to recommend a place to stay in Wayand, I wouldn't go anywhere beyond this place.

~ Sumanta

“Lovely Place!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

This was the first time when we stayed in a home stay and my Mom was very apprehensive about a home stay. She preferred a resort and very reluctantly she agreed to stay in a home stay. Now we including her, are very happy with the service. We would like to especially thank Mr. Shaji & Rafee for the service that they provided. They really made us feel at home and Shaji always took the calls irrespective of the time and was there to provide the service.
The view of the ghat road was lovely and everyday we used to the highest point in the property to watch the sunrise and it was really beautiful....

“Best location, service and value - bliss”

We booked a 2 Nights, 3 Days package in the first week of November.. I booked the package online from Tropical Forrest website and found that the response is too fast for any standards, I was getting responses like it was some robot responding immediately, with a certain warmth J

I had a lot of expectations from this trip and I must admit I was a bit apprehensive that it will not really meet up to those expectations. But right from the time we landed in Calicut (when I got a call from Tropical ForRest to confirm the booking and provide directions), I was blown away with the experience...As soon as you reach the TF (The last 300 meters are pretty bad...so brace yourself), you get personalized attention. The rooms are wonderful, spacious and well appointed with all good amenities but at the same time retaining the rustic feeling..The room smells fantastic (Just writing about it brings back those memories)..The bedroom has a large king size bed and not air conditioned (even though we never felt the need because it was quite chilly)...One sore point was that the geyser was not heated and as a result we had to wait for hot water...There are lot of activities and each one of those had a personal touch...The people conducting these activities are knowledgeable (suhail and nashik - who conducts the sightseeing was very informative and jovial)...The safari ride was also memorable but we could not see the elephants :-(...And the food....the spread was awesome...I recommend the local fare that they serve...Mouth watering....I strongly recommend Tropical ForRest...Value for Money...

Tip about the location: - Wayanad can be divided into 3 parts, Main city, Main town and Tourism hub where the nature is not exploited. Areas around Sulthan Bathery and Kalpetta falls under the city and town. Areas near Vythiri and Lakkidi are superb locations and Lakkidi is one of the most beautiful location – and Tropical ForRest is located right there, THE ONLY PLACE - where you get to see mist filled roads and cottages. Its simply awesome..

Room Tip: Valluwanad if you want to stay with your family, its one huge 3 bedroom villa

“Peaceful Haven”

Tropical ForRest was a last minute booking, literally I phoned the owner at 4:00 p.m. and Saji the manager called me back shortly afterwards, Saji collected me from the Cafe Cofee Day in Lakkidi and guided me to my villa which was quite a surprise. Tropical ForRest is not a homestay it is a group of serviced villas, In the time between me placing the call and being collected Saji and crew had opened up and cleaned a four bedroom villa, clean sheets etc so I had a spacious and very comfortable villa with kitchen, living room and an external balcony and seating area to myself for a single room rate. Breakfasts and the evening meals provided on request were excellent although I think I may have offended the cook as I was completely overfaced and just couldn't eat it all. Saji was extremely solicitous and the rest off the staff were friendly and helpful. My villa was around ten paces from the viewpoint which offers a magnificent view and made for a pleasant start to the day. I left a day earlier than planned as I had a chance to meet up with an old friend in Beypore and both Saji and the owner were at great pains to make sure that I was happy with the villa and not leaving for any other reason. I would heartily recommend the villas for groups and families and commend Saji and staff for the effort they put in to making sure I was looked after and comfortable.
