THe thing that really bugged me was the lack of wifi access, although they advertise it as available for free. It never worked and we ket getting assured that someone was looking into it and it would (very soon!), but the connection never did come up over the 2 nights that we were there. We carried our tablet all over the property to check and it worked nowhere..
The hotel by itself is fine, with clean rooms, okay breakfast fare, but like I said the wifi situation (with false assurances) colored my stay and drove me crazy.

One of the prestigeous places in town with spacious and airconditioned rooms. Very polite staff with courtious and prompt service. Most convenient location on Bangalore-Mangalore highway in central Hassan.

We had got a package which included unlimited buffet breakfast which was delicious. This was the most lovely hotel than others that we visited during our trip.

However there was misalignment of the elevator in which we had to press no.4 to go to 3rd floor and likewise, which was terribly confusing.

This is one of the nicer place in town, Has nice restaurant. Food was good and reasonable. The breakfast was included in the price and had good variety.Only one elevator and not easy to get all the time. Room were good size but needs renovation.
Negotiate the price and try for more discount then there usual price, or you will be sorry.
Not expensive from American standards, but expensive for Indian standard. Close proximity to Shravanbelguda and Belur. Has a BIg Bazar store right across which is very helpful if you need anything. Its a chain departmental store. Internet access, at very cheap price by American standard, consider its free.

OK it is not perfect or 5 star, but it met our requirements completely for a good quality small hotel. Small but spotlessly clean room with flat screen TV, a shower with hot water, a full complement of towels for 2, tea and coffee making equipment and believe it or not duvets and not blankets on a bed not made entirely of iron. The service was friendly and efficient and we had a lunch and dinner in the restaurant which catered for a variety of tastes and served us lovely south Indian food at good prices. The building itself is a bit strange with an odd arrangement of floors and lifts, and Hassan itself is not attractive for a tourist, but we can thouroughly recommend the Southern Star as a base for visiting Helebid, Belur and Sravanabelagola temples.
