I was really suprised to find a hotel room right in the heart of downtown Columbus, Ohio for $100 a night (where the Red Roof Inn charges $145 a night), especially the Holiday Inn, which is known for better service and a greater degree of luxury thean the Red Roof Inn. So, I checked online (the reviews) because I just couldn't believe my eyes (the price, I mean) and then called to check on the amenities. They assured me that they did, indeed, have in room coffee service and an iron and ironing board (which I would need). So I made my reservation.
I thought perhaps the Holiday Inn downtown had become run down or something but it was a great price and walking distance from where I needed to be for business (so I needn't worry about finding parking). They did charge an extra $10 for parking (but so does the Red Roof and the Hyatt charges an extra $20) and the lot is fenced in and gate accessed with your key which made me feel a little more secure.
Check in was super fast (thank God because I was tired after my trip and I was off to my room). I was so very pleasantly surprised. The room was REALLY luxuious, well appointed, from the 4 super soft oversized pillows on the bed and the high count sheets and luxury bedding to the thick soft bath sheets (super size, super thick towels) and other bath linens. The toiletries were high end, shampoo, soap and body lotion.
The room and bathroom were both quite clean.
The room was quiet, the bed comfortable and I slept well.
The high speed internet worked well.
I received my wake up call on time (back up to the in room alarm clock which also worked fine). The in room coffee service served delicious high end coffee.

Overall, I was very happy with my stay at the Holiday Inn Columbus Downtown Capitol Square and highly recommend this hotel.

My husband and I had to stay here in order to visit Grant Hospital for a family member. I did not have time to call and make reservations myself becuase of the hectic day, but my mother called from Texas to set up our stay. Within 15 minutes my mom had called back and had all of the accomodation details. When we arrived the woman at the desk, Diamond, was very curteous. She had set up our room on the 12th floor so it would be quiet and so we would have some privacy as we were also travelling with pets. Diamond made sure we knew where the local park was, how to get to the hospital and made sure we had everything we needed. She also checked multiple times during our stay to see if we were comfortable and if our family member was doing ok. We paid $69 per night because we were listed as a "Grant Patient & Family" discount. I cannot tell you how nice it is to be able to not have to worry about being charged an arm and a leg when you are dealing with family emergencies of that magnatude. The building looks like an old high rise, but the rooms have been refurbished. While the bed was a little bit hard for me, my husband loved it. The restraurant downstairs was very good and the service was quick. Could use more plugs in the room.

The service of the staff far outweighed any of the minor negative details of our stay.

I have stayed at this hotel multiple times while working in downtown Columbus. The price is reasonable and it is only a couple of blocks from Grant Hospital. Althought a little farther, It is also within walking distance to German Village The hotel is clean and the staff is always very friendly and helpful. It is one of the older Holiday Inn's but has had some updates.The bar recently started serving food; they had $4 sandwiches, appetizers and some drinks after 4pm on the weekdays. I would definitely recommend the food at the bar. Where else can you get a good burger and fries for $4 with good service? I have not eaten at their restaurant, but they do have a dining room.

The hotel does charge for parking but they do offer free internet.

This is the only stay that I have encountered and reported maintenance issues. I was very disappointed when I returned that evening to discover that the issues had not been resolved. The desk staff apologized and completed a 2nd report for maintenance.

It's a basic 1960's or 1970's high rise Holiday Inn that has been refurbished. It's clean, comfortable, but a little dated in its basic furnishings. No electrical sockets near bed, so that is an inconvenience!

On my last stay (very early January), very early that morning I was in the lobby when a woman came into the hotel with two small dogs who were wearing vests. I quickly figured out these were not her pets, but rather she was an exterminator and the dogs were the ones trained and used for bedbugs. I've stayed here several times, i've never seen a bedbug or had a problem, but perhaps the hotel indeed may have an infestation based on these dogs. Or maybe it was just preventative. Either way, if you stay here, i'd sure check the bed and room thoroughly for bugs just in case !!
