I made this reservation thru Hotwire. The rate was $56 plus $15 for taxes and fees, total $71. It was listed as a two star in Columbus West. It had the icon for free breakfast and pool.
The Super 8 is a basic hotel, just as you would expect. The rooms are clean, but sparsely appointed. My room (king size non-smoking) had a refrigerator, iron and ironing board. If you like to channel surf the television, it may drive you a little crazy as there is a delay of about 4 seconds (I counted) between each channel as you use the remote. There is a microwave down in the breakfast room that you can use any time if you need to. The breakfast is your standard carb fare (bagels, muffins, pastries), and some fruit (apples, bananas). If you crave protein, you’ll have to settle for hard boiled eggs and cream cheese. No peanut butter, eggs or bacon. They have waffles, but it’s maple syrup only. There was a dataport in my room, so I assume that they have internet access in the rooms. There is also a computer in the lobby which guests can use. They do seem to have mastered how a door closes. Most motels you hear people opening and closing their room doors right through your own door. It’s a nuisance. However, the doors close relatively softly, so that is a real plus for light sleepers.
Making the reservation thru Hotwire turned out to be a problem. When I checked in Saturday night at 7:30 pm, I was told that Hotwire had reserved me a smoking king bed room. As I was there with my teen age son for a sporting event, this didn’t sit well. However, I use hotwire extensively, and the hotels have always been good about getting me the room I needed. I don’t think any of those hotels have ever declined a request I have made. The desk clerk told me that Hotwire doesn’t allow changes to their reservations and I was stuck with that room. Although I could change to a non-smoking room. I have a hard time believing that Hotwire dictates to the hotels what rooms they can and cannot provide. The parking lot was relatively empty that evening, and I told the guy that he must have plenty of other rooms available with two queens. He said that he did, however no changes were allowed. Just to confirm my suspicions, when I left at 6:30 Sunday morning, the parking lot was probably about half empty. I don’t know what business this motel is in, but it isn’t hospitality.
It is located next to I-70, and is an area with lots of other hotels, restaurants, a cinema, Wal-mart, Marshall’s, etc. There is a Cracker Barrel and Sylva’s (full service mid priced) restaurant within walking distance. Also close by are all the other major food groups: Arby’s, Fazoli’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, etc. It’s an easy commute to the convention center on the weekends. I don’t know about the commute to downtown.
