“A treasure - a truly unique room”

I recently stayed at the Harrison House while I was in Columbus for business. Lynn accomodated my last minute travel plans graciously. I was lucky to find a cancellation and had the suite at the top of the house. What a treasure! The room has the sloping ceilings, nooks, and crannies that make it adorable. The bathroom is a converted turret (circular tower, which are common in Victorian era homes). The windows in both the bedroom and bath opened to allow in the breeze and the light. It was magical, like sleeping in the tops of the trees. The bed and bath are comfortable and clean. I do agree with other reviewers that Harrison House is more casual and less pretentious than many other B&Bs - the kind of place where you don't worry about breaking things or feel like you're intruding. The breakfast that Lynn prepared the next morning was the singular best breakfast I have had at any B&B. She served Snow White Crepes, fresh berries, bacon, coffee, and juice. She was good enough to share the recipe source cookbook and discuss coooking! I will definitely be staying there again on my many business trips to Columbus Ohio!

“It's like staying with relatives you enjoy being around...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 April 2011

I remember staying with aunts and uncles, grandparents, in-laws, and assorted other relatives during my youth when traveling out of town with my parents. It was always a great time to socialize and catch up on the things going on in each others lives and discuss the events of the day. The hosting relatives would always cook a great breakfast, even made-to-order eggs at times. So in essence the bed-n-breakfast concept is an extension of something from my past, or at least I could hope it would be.
The proprietor of Harrison House Bed and Breakfast, Lynn Varney, is an example of everything that can be right with a B-n-B. I was made to feel welcomed, given the tour of the home and the various unexpected amenities of staying at Harrison House. There's a separate refrigerator in the kitchen for guests to keep their own chilled snacks or specialty items. It is stocked with 2-3 different types of white wine (Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, and Proseco during my visit), Pellegrino water, and a large bowl of fruit for the guests to enjoy. Red wine (3 styles to choose from) is kept to the left of the refrigerator along with a huge assortment of teas (more than 15 different types) and coffee.
All of the inclusives in your stay are nice. The rooms are well-appointed and immaculately clean. The circa 1890 structure is architecturally beautiful and maintained in perfect condition. The main differentiating point about Harrison House is Lynn. She is a witty, intelligent, and interesting conversationalist capable of discussing a broad range of topics and displays genuine interest in the people central to her guests life.
A bed and breakfast is much like a house in that it is nothing more than the lumber that frames, the shingles that roof, and the glass that provides view. Lynn Varney makes Harrison House bed and breakfast a "home" and truly places the motto "come as a guest, leave as a friend" into living practice.
Thank you for an excellent stay. It is my hope that I may return with my sweetheart Lorie in the future and can assure you that we will not consider any other place to stay in Columbus, because staying at Harrison House is like staying with relatives you enjoy being around.

“Nice B&B close to campus, with Lynn being a great hostess”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2011

I have been trying to experience B&B's out here in MT and decided to take my sisterfriend to one for our Judd's concert. I was pleased for the most part, although this seemed a bit more disorganized than all the others I have stayed at previously. They are, for the most part, stunningly beautiful with nothing out of place, no clutter, etc. I think Lynn is more of the "lived in" type of B&B, which seems to suit her and her clients well. We enjoyed our stay and overall a great experience.

Thank you for the review and I enjoyed having you as guests. My B&B is indeed "lived in" because I live here and use the whole house. I spend an enormous amount of time in the kitchen...my cooking space and work space. I admit to having a problem with "piles" of paperwork and such and am working to control myself. I also have way too much cooking/baking equipment but alas my addiction to cookware continues. I spend much of my time in the main house so I can interact with my guests and provide guidance as needed for dining and recreation. I much prefer being in the midst of things rather than hidden away from my guests. If you want a comfy, homey place to stay where you can snuggle up on the sofa with a glass of wine or hot cup of tea or hang out in the kitchen...Harrison House is the place to be. If you want a pristine, hands off, look only sort of stay, we probably are not your best choice. I look forward each day to meeting new guests and if someone can give me solid pointers on how to control my paperwork issue (I've tried for years to no avail) I would be grateful. Thanks so much, Lynn

“Great B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2011

My husband, 10 year old dsughter, and I had such a wonderful stay this weekend at the Harrison House B&B. The location is fabulous for seeing all the Columbus fun, family friendly spots. We stayed in room 6, super cozy. Lynn is a great host. We can't wait for another stay.

“The Harrison House has it all!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2010

My recent trip through Columbus, Ohio was highlighted by my stay at the Harrison House. It is very clean, close to the airport, and has all the comforts of home and more. Lynn Varney, the owner/operator, seems to have a 6th sense for your needs and pays special attention to detail. I was very impressed with the bed I slept in and was awakened in the morning by the smell of fresh brewed coffee. After enjoying an exellent breakfast, I packed my bags and continued on my journey. I would highly recommend the Harrison House to anyone that is going to be in the Columbus area. Thank you again for the great stay.
