Very pretty hotel, comfy beds, clean room, easy location. Was a last minute choice for a concert. Loved it!

The Varsity Inn North definitely looks different from the pictures on the website. Perhaps I was being naive but I was initially surprised that it was a motel, with the rooms opening up directly into the parking lot - nothing on the website indicated that that was the case. Initial shock aside, the woman who checked us in at the front desk was lovely and later proved very helpful when we needed directions.

The room was another shock - it smelled overwhelmingly like mildew. The smell seemed to emanate from the toilet/shower in the back of the room, and we turned the A/C on immediately and left the front door open in an attempt to air out the room. We were not terribly successful and had to put up with the smell throughout our stay. The towels provided looked very thin and worn and the bed wasn't 4*.

None of this would really be a problem if we were aware, from the description on the website, that we were checking into a Motel. The website, however, (and the amount we had to pay to book the room) made the Varsity Inn look like it was a direct competitor of the Hilton Garden Inn next door. It is most certainly not.

Hotel staff was great BUT I didn't appreciate having my room given to another and ending up with a smoking room. First come first serve is my slogan and that doesn't mean arrival time but booking time. Aside from that, the staff offered to change the following day but not good enough.

As soon as we walked in we noticed how clean the room was, it smelled great and everything was perfectly clean. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. They gave us no trouble at all when we asked for clean towels. I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone who is on a budget and wants a clean/comfortable place to sleep.
