My family was in Coumbus, Ohio for a graduation this past weekend, and had a flight cancellation due to bad weather in Charlotte, NC. USAirways gave us a list of hotels on the airport property that gave "Distressed Passenger" discounts. A red flag should've gone up with that term, but we were all tired, and just wanted to sleep for a few hours before our 4:00am wake-up call on Monday morning. The hotel gave us a rate of $39 which was good, and really scary. When we entered Room 158, it was like we had stepped into a horror movie at one of those "seedy" hotels. First of all, the carpeting was so dirty, that we could barely see the "blue' color peeking out. We kept our socks on. Secondly, the water pressure in the sink was a mere "trickle", almost impossible to regulate the temperature to wash hands or face. The fan in the bathroom sounded like farm equipment, and the air conditioning unit was so loud, that sleeping was not possible. Lastly, the mattress( without a box spring, or maybe it WAS the box spring) on the bed was so hard that it felt like you were laying on a cabin floor! We were too tired to go through the hassle of going back to the front desk and complaining. We are using it as a lesson learned when we hear the words, "Distressed Passenger Discount." This room truly complemented our "Distressed" status. I plan to also make US Airways aware of how horrible this hotel is.
