“Horrible Location - should have researched before I booked”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 July 2010

Nothing against this property itself, it was very nice, typical Hampton Inn. Internet, TV, pool, etc. were all fine. However, the location in a bad neighborhood, down a strange frontage road, almost like an alley. I missed the entrance to the road and ended up going around the block. Across the road was this old, large hotel, all the widows broken out and burned out, trash and weeds everywhere, furniture and mattresses hanging out upper story windows. I would have felt better if there had been security in the parking lot.

“Badddd Location!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2009

The Hotel itself is middle of the road - nothing overly great, nothing bad, but the location is absolutely horrible. At the end of a dark rutted up road in an area of abandoned buildings is not the normal place you would imagine a Hampton Inn being located. As a Hilton Diamond member I stay in an awful lot of Hampton Inns on a regular basis, and have never been so disappointed in the location of the property. My word of advice - Stay Away!

“Hidden Secret on the East Side”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2008

I've stayed at this hotel twice, once in March 2008 and once in May 2008. Both stays were very pleasant. The rooms were clean and smelled good. The beds are very comfortable and the neighborhood is nice and quiet. The staff was friendly and tried to help out any way they could. I would stay here again if I were in the area.

I had a problem with the heat/air conditioning in my room. I couldn't get a comfortable temperature. I was either way too hot or too cold. Perhaps it was just me.

“location, location...location”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2007

Location is the key to any good hotel experience. Unfortunately the location of this hotel is awful. It is tucked away on an old access road in a “transitional” neighborhood. This hotel can try all it wants but the poor location is the trump card.

The hotel itself is fine. Standard middle of the road Hampton Inn. All the typical hotel services were fine. Free paper, Internet worked, Breakfast was ok and gym was small but fine. It even has an indoor pool and hot tub

But the location is the drag here. Hidden from the interstate by a huge mill and active (noisy) railroad track this place is hard to fine. It is even harder to get in and out of. The local area is a mix of strip mall and strip clubs so not the best. There are many gas stations and fast food places about, but this is a pay first kind area if you catch my drift.

The hotel staff was friendly and rooms clean. If you are just staying the night this place might be fine. For longer stays I would look elsewhere.

“OK hotel but questionable location”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2006

people found this review helpful

This hotel is an acceptable, well taken care of, newish property, but in a poor location.

The clientele I saw are all hardworking businessmen traveling on a budget. The front desk receptionist, breakfast hostess, and cleaning staff were all top notch.

The amenities are average for a Hampton Inn:

- Interior access hallways are more secure than motels with exterior room doors
- Enhanced continental breakfast with a couple of premade hot items. This saves you a considerable amount of money, especially for families. Don't expect too much from this free breakfast, but it's pleasant enough.
- Smallish pool (indoor at this location with separate whirlpool) and small exericse room
- Tiny guest laundry with one washer/dryer.
- Free parking
- Free coffee/tea 24 hrs.
- They have the updated bedding that seems to have been rolled out to the Hampton's this past
year
- Windows heating/AC unit is noisy design, typical, though.
- Free wireless internet in rooms and lobby area (works well, many more expensive hotels charge $10/day for this)
- Free computer access provided at lobby workstation, handy for checking email for those not traveling with a computer.

Plusses compared to some Hampton's I've stayed in:
- They do serve the free cookies in the early evening. Many Hampton's don't do this anymore.
- Room has a true closet vs. an armmoire.
- Mini Fridge and microwave in all rooms.
- Couple of restaurants within a couple of blocks (Red Lobster, Bob Evans)

Minuses compared to some Hampton's I've stayed in:
- 3rd floor where I stayed has a mix of smoking and nonsmoking rooms. It's much better when the entire floor is nonsmoking. I can smell traces of smoke, and the room
is not fresh compared to an entirely nonsmoking floor.
- Only 1 elevator for this 3-floor property
- No water cooler in exercise room, no weights or universal gym, only cardio machines
- Minimum number of towels provided (two sets). It's more common to see three or four sets of towels in most Hampton's I've stayed in.
- Undesirable neighborhood (dead end road with mini storage warehouse on two sides, Large factory (grain elevator?) looming nearby. Freight train track behind the mini storage warehouse has late night trains going to the factory. (The odd numbered rooms are on the side of the building facing away from the tracks).
- Garbage truck came to empty the large dumpster at 2:30am Monday and 6:45am Wednesday, and this makes quite a noise.
- Hotel is situated in a low spot near a freeway overpass.
- Area appears "dead" at night.
- Indicators of possible security issues in this area: several signs in the hotel parking lot saying park at your own risk, security camera pointed at parking lot, nearby Red Lobster
restaurant hires a security guard to be on premesis.
- Pretty expensive (averaging $100) considering the neighborhood which is not centrally located, just a freeway exit on the outskirts of the Columbus area. I'd expect $65/night for a Hampton in this type of neighborhood and area of the country.
- Rooms have drywall walls - some Hampton's use concrete walls are are more soundproof.

  • Liked — internet access worked well
  • Disliked — questionable location
  • Tips/Secrets — request odd numbered rooms to face away from train track
